Whats different about Joaquin Phoenix’s ‘Joker’ Interview

As I’ve said before the Joker is one of the most diverse characters, not only in comics but in all mediums. There are so many different ways to portray him. Every person that’s played Joker has played the clown differently, from Heath Ledgers Oscar-winning performance to Cesar Romero, Jack Nicholson, and even Jared Leto (That’s not even counting the animated versions of him). No version is wrong, but they are all very different (Ok Leto’s might be, but that’s up to debate).

Now it’s up to Joaquin Phoenix to do a full feature-length film on just the Joker. While there are many versions, how does Phoenix differ himself? This is an origin story told from the point of Arthur Fleck (Phoenix). It’s the story of a descent into madness, and more importantly, how the world brought him to this point.

In the above interview Director Todd Phillips talks about loving the freedom of taking a character that everyone knows but is open to interpretation, Zazie Beetz tells us Who Arthur is as a person, and Joaquin Phoenix dives into why he said yes to doing the film as well as how the film is told through his eyes and open for the audience.

‘Joker’ releases on October 4, 2019.
