Apodaca, known as @420doggface208 on the video-sharing app, shot to fame last month (September 2020) by posting a clip of himself longboarding to work while sipping from a bottle of Ocean Spray cranberry juice as Dreams played in the background.
The video has been viewed over 50 million times across all social media platforms and propelled the 1977 hit back into the charts after racking up millions of streams – prompting Fleetwood to surprise Apodaca during a BBC World News America interview via a Zoom call.
“I just wanna say, outside of Fleetwood Mac, we owe you,” Fleetwood told the social media star. “It’s such a great story, and it’s so needed. In days that are really challenging… it makes people smile, and I’m so happy to be part of it. Congratulations on a wild, wild skateboard journey that has led us to talking today.”
The legendary drummer even joined TikTok himself to post his own recreation of the video, which itself has gone viral on various social media platforms.
Explaining how his kids convinced him to join in the fun, Fleetwood said: “I was just led right into it. People around me were going like, ‘Dad, you’ve got to do this, it’s so cool.’ So we did it, and now here we are, talking.”
The 73-year-old went on to express his hope that bandmate Stevie Nicks was watching their virtual meeting, saying she would be “overjoyed” to see it.
Apodaca’s TikTok fame has proved profitable, with Ocean Spray chiefs gifting him a truck loaded up with bottles of his favorite drink.
