The eagerly awaited first trailer for ‘A Complete Unknown’ just dropped, showcasing Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan. Although the film doesn’t have an official release date yet, director James Mangold hinted that it could premiere as soon as December 2024.
The movie chronicles Bob Dylan’s formative years in New York, his rising fame, and his iconic 1965 performance at the Newport Folk Festival where he famously “went electric.”
Timothee Chalamet as Bob Dylan: A First Look
Witness Timothée Chalamet like never before—strumming a guitar and passionately singing Bob Dylan’s 1963 folk classic “A Hard Rain’s a-Gonna Fall” as he portrays the young Dylan’s ascent to fame in 1960s New York City.
In his first in-depth interview with Rolling Stone, the director James Mangold delved into the upcoming film and praised Chalamet’s “immense talent.”
“I think one of the things Timmy is so brilliant at playing in the movie and something I think Bob related to me, is a true feeling — which is that it’s also about, how does one deal with that burden? How you yourself, if you have this power, aren’t even sure exactly where it’s coming from — you’re trying to protect it and cherish it, but you’re also not sure if it will lift you or destroy you. And so there’s an ambivalent relationship for all the characters with this idea of immense talent.”

Joining Chalamet in the cast is Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo, a fictional character inspired by Bob Dylan’s real-life girlfriend and muse, Suze Rotolo. Edward Norton takes on the role of fellow folk musician Pete Seeger, while Monica Barbaro portrays a young Joan Baez. Additionally, Boyd Holbrook is rumored to be playing Johnny Cash.

‘A Complete Unknown’ is expected to hit theaters in December. Stay tuned for more!
