Did Kim Kardashian Really And Truly Pose For ‘Vogue’?

We all know that Kanye West desperately wants us to understand that his fiancée and baby’s mother Kim Kardashian is a huge deal. He’s called her “a style titan” and the “Michael Jordan of wearing clothes.” Well, at least on Saturday Night Live “he” has:

All jokes aside, we get that Kim is — in terms of fashion — more fabulous now than ever. But did she finally, actually get that Vogue Magazine spread that Kanye has been ranting about? Rumor has it that Kim posed for THE fashion magazine, which would mean that Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour finally caved and probably hell itself has frozen over? Seriously, what does this mean?!

Well for one, it would mean that Kim probably wouldn’t need to be Kanye’s plus-one anymore to get into the Met Gala. She would, officially, be a part of that crowd. The rest of the fashion world would, likely, start to follow suit. But in the grand scheme of things, it’s difficult to say what, exactly, this means. Kim has already been embraced by much of the fashion world. Hell, her baby has more couture threads than the average person and she gets them straight from the designers! And it’s not like Kim doesn’t score high fashion cover shoots. She’s done W Magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, and she was even on the cover of New York Magazine‘s Fall Fashion issue back in 2012. Granted, that issue specifically asked the question What Will The Fashion World Do With Kim Kardashian? But the point is, she was there!

For people who have been secretly [or not-so secretly] applauding those members of the fashion world who still refuse to let Kim sit with them, it will probably be devastating to see Kim in Vogue Magazine. But she is at the point in her career (and yes folks, it is a career) where you can no longer argue that she’s just that girl who made that sex tape that one time and got famous and doesn’t work and shouldn’t be celebrated. How she initially achieved celebrity is almost irrevelant, you could argue. She’s here now! And while many other folks (most, in fact) have squandered whatever 15 minutes they got, Kim (and Kris Jenner… probably, mainly Kris Jenner) has turned it into a full-blown brand. Vogue Magazine can ignore that or embrace it, but — whether folks like it or not — the Kardashian movement isn’t coming to an end anytime soon.

When Kate Upton finally scored her first Vogue cover, there were cries of “Fashion Is Dead!” all around because — OMG — they’d let a big-breasted, former Sports Illustrated girl on the cover. On the one hand, this is why the hashtag #FirstWorldProblems was invented. And if we are really going to take these issues seriously, then we have to say that so-called high-brow fashion could use a shaking up every once in a while. And, if nothing else, Kimmy K in the pages of Vogue would certainly shake things up a bit.
