This. Is. Huge. Have you ever been tweeting about a product or a brand and thought to yourself, “Man, they should really be giving me free stuff for all of this promotion?” Well, the gods of free stuff have heard your cries and the Pop-Up Shop is officially here to stay. During New York Fashion Week, Marc Jacobs opened up the glorious Daisy Marc Jacobs Tweet Shop for business. Folks who wanted fragrance freebies just had to share their love for the product on social media (Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter) with the hashtag #MJDaisyChain, and voila! Free fancy stuff. TIME was at the event, and it looked like a total blast.
Now, even if you missed Fashion Week, this whole social media Pop-Up Shop movement is still wildly exciting. If it’s good enough for Marc Jacobs, chances are other brands will go along with it and make this a trend. A recent article in Forbes points out that it’s difficult for people to determine exactly how profitable social media marketing is, and there has been a decline in new users on sites like Twitter. So while we can’t say whether or not social currency is ultimately beneficial to these brands, we can say that it’s a fun new trend that we hope to see more of in the future.
