Brazilian babe Maria Cecilia Campos knows a thing or two about living an eclectic life. Hailing from the beach town of Recife, Brazil, Maria moved to Miami in 2000 before settling in New York in 2009. “Most people don’t believe me, but I didn’t really like New York at first.”
I like to wear my tracksuits with Celine heels and a structured jacket.
Campos is all over the New York style map. You can spot her at black-tie galas and benefits just as often as dance parties in Brooklyn. She deems herself a “Barneys addict,” but can’t get enough of little roadside trinkets from across the globe. Her style influences and wardrobe are equally as varied. “I grew up with three brothers, so I wore a lot of track suits. I used to wear the ones that snapped along the side that you could rip off. I thought they were the shit! I still rock tracksuits, but now I’ll wear it with Celine heels and a structured jacket.”
I never wore black before I moved to New York, can you believe that?!
Campos claims she “never even wore black before moving to New York. I used to wear a lot of prints, now I focus on really tailored pieces. In fact, prints used to take precedence over tailoring—now it’s the complete opposite. But, if a piece is well tailored and has a great print—even better!”
Campos’ style is decidingly low-key. Aside from well-tailored pieces and the occasional burst of color, her go-to outfit is a pair of fitted jeans, a t-shirt, and a killer pair of shoes. “I’m a shoe girl,” Campos says. “I can go ages without buying clothes, but I can’t go ages without buying shoes. I like to have badass shoes with a simple outfit. I’m currently eyeing all the shoes from Prada this season…”
