Paula Abdul is once again being fitted for judges’ robes.
The former American Idol panelist will be the lead judge in a new primetime talent competition series on CBS, Got to Dance.
According to reports, Abdul will also act as executive producer, creative partner, mentor and coach. The show is from ShineReveille and based on the UK hit.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that the show is billed as broadcast’s first all-ages, all-genres dance series. Acts will compete for a panel of judges, with viewers getting to vote for their favorites during the semifinals and finals.
CBS, which announced its fall schedule last week, likely will air Got to Dance midseason, raising the possibility of Abdul’s new show competing directly against Idol, says THR.
CBS has ordered at least eight episodes of Got to Dance, an insider told Vulture.
Also according to Vulture, the CBS gig doesn’t rule out a possible slot on X Factor. According to the blog, at various points in Abdul’s discussions with other networks, her camp made it clear the star needed to have the flexibility to serve as a coach/judge on X Factor, should she be asked to appear on that show.
