Mystery Team: assemble! There’s a mystery afoot! According to TV Guide, NBC is apparently quite close to signing a put pilot deal with Community star Donald Glover that will see him developing this new show with his former 30 Rock coworker, executive producer Matt Hubbard.
Could it be true? We sure hope so. Loosely based on Glover’s life, the show is expected to be a starring vehicle for the actor, who also served as a writer on 30 Rock from 2008-09 before moving to Greendale.
Glover has previously used his life as a source of inspiration in his career: he grew up in a very rural town called Stone Mountain, Georgia–where he has frequently noted in interviews that his was one of the few African American families around. Part of his nerdy younger days were used as inspiration in his movie with DERRICK Comedy (friends Dominic Dierkes and DC Pierson), Mystery Team. Additionally, while on the staff at 30 Rock, Glover said he used his rural upbringing to help write for noted former rural-inhabitant Kenneth the Page.
