Green Day Leads MTV Video Music Award Noms

The MTV Video Music Award nominations were announced today by MTV. This year’s ceremony, to be hosted by rap mogul Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs, will return to Miami, Fla., on August 28.

Rockers Green Day leads the nominees pack with eight noms in total, including Video of the Year, Best Group Video, and Viewer’s Choice for “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” while “American Idiot” is in the running for Best Art Direction.

Solo songstress Gwen Stefani and rapper Missy Elliott follow with six nods each and U2 with five nominations.

Green Day will also be performing at the 22nd annual VMAs, along with Kanye West and Kelly Clarkson, whose “Since U Been Gone” snagged nominations for Best Female Video and Best Pop Video.

According to MTV.com, the live broadcast of the VMAs will be scored with original music, composed by Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda and the crunk king Lil Jon.
