Here’s Everything We Know About The CW’s Archie Adaptation ‘Riverdale’

If you’re a fan of The CW, and certainly of the Archie comics, then you’ve probably been closely watching out for new of The CW’s upcoming Archie adaptation, Riverdale. Archie comics are traditionally vibrant cartoons that follow Archie, Jughead, Betty and Veronica in their town of Riverdale. However, this new version of Riverdale is not your grandma’s Archie. It’s the 21st century so obviously, The CW had to put a new spin on things. Here is everything we know about Riverdale.

When will it premiere?

Riverdale will premiere on The CW, Thursday, January 26, 2017, with the long-running Supernatural as its lead-in.

It has a very dark plot.

The series synopsis reads as follows, “As a new school year begins,the town of Riverdale is reeling from the recent, tragic death of high school golden boy Jason Blossom — and nothing feels the same.” According to Vanity Fair, Jason was the twin brother of the town’s Queen Bee, Cheryl Blossom, and apparently, Cheryl is hiding something big.

Is the series based on the comics?

Archie Comics

After Riverdale premieres, Archie Comics will release a special one-shot written by the series showrunner and Afterlife With Archie writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. The comic will hit shelves February 1, will explore the events leading up to the TV series’ premiere.

The cast is full of familiar faces.

KJ Apa stars as Archie Andrews, an all-American teen who has decided to turn against his father’s wishes and pursue his musical dreams. Unfortunately, his illicit relationship with his music teacher Ms. Grundy (Sarah Habel) has come to a sudden end so he has no one to mentor him.

Cole Sprouse stars as Jughead Jones, an aspiring writer and ex-BFF of Archies. It seems like there may be some bad blood between these two.

Lili Reinhart stars as girl-next-door Betty Cooper, who just might be ready to reveal her true feelings to Archie. Her lust for Archie isn’t the only thing that Betty is dealing with. She’s also struggling with an overbearing mother and an addiction to Adderall.

Camila Mendes plays Riverdale newcomer Veronica Lodge, who quickly befriends Betty only to find herself sparking with Archie.

Ashleigh Murray stars as Josie McCoy (of the future Josie and Pussycat Dolls). Josie is totally focused on her band and her music, which means she has no time for anything else, certainly not in providing Archie with any help with his own music.
