‘Idol’s’ Randy Jackson Wants a Talk Show

Randy JacksonIf there’s anyone I would pick last for a team of talk show hosts (because that’s a thing, right?), it’s Randy Jackson. Well, apparently he’s got a different take on that than I do, because he’s trying to get himself his very own daytime talk show. For real, dawg.

According The Hollywood Reporter, Jackson is shopping around a show in which he’d talk about “things that will be hip next.” So, basically he wants to be a pop culture prophet? Or is it just that some whackadoodle conspiracy about how all of our trends and obsessions are actually chosen and carefully planned out months in advance of their actual reigns is actually true, and Randy Jackson is secretly one of the folks behind it all? Okay, I’m sure it’s not that ridiculous, but I’m not sure I’d watch it. And I’m really not sure that the middle of the day audiences are really that type of crowd.

Besides, Jackson can’t fill his minutes on American Idol with varied commentary (how many times can you say “yo dawg” and “so-and-so’s in it to win it?”), how the hell is he supposed to fill an entire hour with his own thoughts on the next big thing? He certainly knows his way around the music business, but I just don’t think he’s meant to carry a television show all by his lonesome. There are no takers at the moment, but it does seem that celeb-led talk shows are taking over daytime slots that have long belonged to soaps, so it’s certainly possible. Oh brother.
