In the vote heard ’round the world, Nicole Scherzinger absolved herself from the guilt of fulfilling her judgely duties on The X Factor when she purposely used her vote to create a tie, throwing the decision to send either Rachel Crow or Marcus Canty home to America’s votes. While I don’t think anyone admired her decision to not be the decision-maker, I think we all thought the votes would send Canty away – and so did Scherzinger. When Crow was the one sent packing and she collapsed and cried in the most heartbreaking reality show elimination ever, Scherzinger lost it too. And it seems that she could have lost a little more than her cool. When asked at a press conference if she’d be returning to The X Factor next season, she dodged the question, suggesting that judging duties may not be in her future.
According to Deadline, Scherzinger replied, “I’ve had a lot of fun this season. The reason I took this job is I wanted to mentor, first and foremost…It has been very hard on me, the elimination process. It’s something I could never have been prepared for.” Of course, this doesn’t necessarily signal whether Scherzinger or The X Factor producers are a bit iffy about bringing her back, but it does bring it into question. And it would make sense for her to find greener pastures. After that Rachel Crow incident, she’s The X Factor’s persona non grata. Fans are upset and the other judges can’t be thrilled about it. Nothing is official, and Scherzinger’s statement confirms that, but from the viewer’s perspective, she’s walking on thin ice. I wouldn’t be surprised if the producers’ perspectives were similar.
The season finale of The X Factor airs this week on Thursday, Dec. 22 at 8 p.m. on Fox. Do you want to see Scherzinger come back next season? Or are you hoping this convinced Simon Cowell to bring back Cheryl Cole?
