Jason Bateman Confirms Return For Arrested Development’s Fifth Season

Jason Bateman is onboard for the fifth season of Arrested Development.

The 48-year-old star confirmed he’s back as main character Michael Bluth for the offbeat comedy show on social media. “Look very probable I’m going to put some miles on the Stair Car this summer.,” he wrote on Twitter, referencing the only form of transport available to the broke Bluth family.

“Just officially signed on to more ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT today,” he added, driving fans of the dysfunctional family wild.

The ensemble series, starring Portia de Rossi, Will Arnett, Michael Cera, David Cross and Jeffrey Tambor, made its debut on Fox in 2003 and followed level-headed Michael as he takes over family affairs after his father, played by Tambor, is imprisoned.

It ran for three seasons, winning a host of Emmys including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Casting for a Comedy Series in 2004.

The 15-episode Netflix season was well received in 2013, but with the star-studded cast consistently busy with other projects, it’s been a challenge for executive producer Brian Grazer to get the cast back together.

“We are close,” Grazer told Deadline back in January (17). “I think we found a way to create the compensation structure for all the actors and create a work matrix so they can still make movies and do other things and it will all integrate. So we are really close – I think within a couple of weeks at the most.”

Netflix previously announced it had commissioned a fifth season of the show earlier this year (17), but have yet to confirm when the series will return.
