Since Simon Cowell only managed to pick one judge for his American X-Factor premiere — that would be L.A. Reid — we’re forced to continue to speculate about who the next music “expert” might be. I find this whole thing a bit odd too, because contestant auditions for Cowell’s show are already underway, but then again I come from the American Idol school of how-to-run-a-singing-contest so what do I know? The latest all-knowing, worldly would-be judge is none other than Jessica “I Wanna Love You Forever” Simpson who, in case you forgot, was originally famous for singing, not just for being John Mayer’s “sexual napalm” and never knowing whether or not she’s eating chicken.
When asked about the possibility, Simpson told Women’s Wear Daily, “They have definitely talked to me about X Factor. I think it would be a lot of fun. It’s definitely my life. To be a mentor for up-and-coming artists is right up my alley. I would have loved to have a mentor. I love watching people’s dreams come true.”
So it looks like we’re even farther away from know who will tell us who should win once the X-Factor gets rolling. Although, if you ask me, Simpson is like the new and improved Paula from Idol (yes, I know her last name is Abdul, but I’m talking about a very specific version of the former pop star). I think she’d be an interesting addition for sure.
