‘Locke And Key’ Trailer For TV Show That Never Was

In some strange alternate universe, Firefly is entering its ninth season, Family Guy never got un-cancelled, and the Locke and Key pilot got picked up. Fox came close to closing the deal on a TV adaptation of Joe Hill’s comic book series, but passed at the last minute, leaving the Steven Spielberg-backed project in the lurch. But they apparently got far enough along in the process to produce a trailer, which leaked to the internet earlier this week.

Series writer Josh Friedman confirmed that the trailer was legitimate. “This leaked L/K trailer was made by Fox for advertisers months ago…Nobody should make anything of its presence on the net.” Friedman wrote on Twitter. “I don’t know who put it out there. But it is something Fox had shown me long ago.”

Based on a popular comic book series by Joe Hill (Stephen King‘s kid), Locke and Key is the story of the appropriately named Locke family who move into the mysterious “Keyhouse” after their father’s death. They discover that the house is filled with transformative doors that change everyone who walks through them. The pilot stars Miranda Otto (Lord Of The Rings), Jesse McCartney (Alvin And The Chipmunks), and Sarah Bolger (The Tudors)

A screening of the pilot at San Diego Comic-Con was meant to be one last shot for the series, but it doesn’t seem to have generated enough buzz to save it. Perhaps this trailer will turn the trend around.
