As the TV season heads into its last two months, including the all-important May sweeps, there’s just no place for low-rated midseason misfires.
Fox announced Monday it is abandoning the midseason replacement The American Embassy after only four episodes. The show, about the lives and loves of a U.S. consulate staff in London, filmed only four one-hour episodes, with a two-hour season finale to air April 8. It won’t even make it that far.
Other shows on the chopping block include ABC’s The Wayne Brady Show, which aired for only two weeks last month, and WB’s For Your Love and My Guide to Being a Rock Star. UPN has dumped two reality shows, Under One Roof and The Amazing Race 2.
The NBC show Imagine That, starring Hank Azaria, is saying so long after two abysmal showings.
NBC, however, has decided to hold onto the shaky Julia Louis-Dreyfus sitcom Watching Ellie for a little while longer. The show had been performing poorly but had a small resurgence last week. It will air through April 16, leaving four episodes for next season if NBC brings it back.
