In hopes of adding to their slew of reality shows focusing on young relationships, MTV just gave the okay to film a Married Young reality pilot.
The show would focus on young couples who are figuring out how hard life is once the honeymoon is over. The docuseries would follow couples in their first year of marriage as they struggle to adjust, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, this series would take a much more serious tone. Wait, hold the phone. They’ve got series called 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom, but a show about young married couples is where they decide to get more serious? How much more serious can it get than “you’re sixteen years old and you had unprotected sex and you’re going to have a baby and you’re totally not ready?” That’s pretty freaking serious. “You’re married early and it’s hard” doesn’t sound quite as dire.
Anyway, this is just an order for a pilot. There’s no word yet on whether or not the show will go to series, but if MTV’s track record with shows of this nature is any indication, we’ll not only see Married Young, but a Married Young 2 and maybe even I’m 18 and In Couples Counseling.
