Oprah Scores the Best Ratings She’s Had Since 1994

Oprah WinfreyOprah fans, you’ve done it. You sent your fearless leader out with a bang — a giant ratings bang. She got a 13.3 household score, which she hasn’t achieved on her daytime show since a 1994 episode called “People Shed Their Disguises” which was basically like What Not To Wear on one of those episodes where Stacy and Clinton get really real. This is probably good news considering she’s got her own (OWN) network now.

So how did this happen? Her finale didn’t even have celebrities! It was just her talking about herself and her journey for an hour! I know because we had it on in our office. I bet that most people’s offices don’t have a big television hooked up to cable so they can watch Oprah in the middle of the day though. My theory is that there were a whole bunch of Oprah-loving ladies and a smattering of dudes (just to be fair, I’m sure there was like one or two dudes…maybe) who took the day off so that they could be home, in the middle of the day, when everyone else is at work, and watch Oprah’s final show. So, bosses, if you had a handful of employees mysteriously come down with “food poisoning or something” at like two or three in the afternoon yesterday, it’s probably a valid concern that by “food poisoning” they meant “a questionable and dangerous addiction to Oprah’s teachings.”
