Rewatch One Of The Best Scenes Of ‘Westworld’ Season 2

Westworld Season 1 was a mind-blowing experience.

It was a world of cowboys and robots, a story of both the past and present and it was magical. After it was done, the fans would ask, where could you go from there? The answer would be a lot of places, more time jumping, more not knowing whose real and whose mechanical. It got confusing, to say the least, but there were certainly some gems, and that includes the clip above from Season 2 Episode 4 called “The Riddle of the Sphinx”.

This clip is from the beginning of the episode. James Delos is in an incubation chamber where he runs through his morning routines including listening to the Rolling Stones “Playing With Fire” (even that song is a warning), and he’s exercising on his bike. He then dances, stares at himself in the mirror, drinks some water, stops the music, and then the clip above begins.

Delos starts pouring cream into his cup, and when he starts pouring on the outside of his cup, the view realizes this isn’t the real Delos, but a robot version of him that isn’t quite right. William comes into talk to him with a bottle and they sit to drink and talk. Delos is then told he’s still in the “observation period” but they need to do an interview. What this Delos doesn’t know is that William is trying to make the perfect clone of the real Delos, which is harder than he anticipated. This isn’t the first time they’ve done this test, unbeknownst to Mr. Delos, but we don’t know how long its been going on for.

What’s real and not would be a question throughout Season 2 and this clip is the perfect represenation. This scene is absolutely wonderfully acted, and it’s a shame that Peter Mullan wasn’t nominated for an Emmy for Guest Actor (Jimmi Simpson was nominated for “Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series” but lost to Ron Cephas Jones from This Is Us).

Watch this full scene as well as the rest of Season 2 in stunning 4K UltraHD when ‘Westworld Season 2: The Door’ is released December 4, 2018.
