It looks like Treme may no longer be the most musical show on television. The director/writer duo of Martin Scorsese and Terence Winter, (who are already responsible for what is probably the most anticipated new series of the year, Boardwalk Empire) are teaming up with musical legend Mick Jagger for a new HBO project. The series, titled History Of Music, will follow the lives of two friends through 40 years in the music business. The creators didn’t happen to explain how exactly that would work, but our guess is that HBO will either have to buy copious amounts of aging makeup, or order a 40 season series.
History Of Music originated with Jagger as a possible feature film for Disney, but the project ended up at Paramount. HBO is now reportedly working with Paramount to develop a pilot based around the concept, and have brought on HBO veteran Winter to write. Scorsese, Winter and Jagger would all executive produce the “rock and roll epic”, with Scorsese having first shot at directing the pilot. This won’t be Scorsese’s first collaboration with Jagger, besides including Rolling Stones music in nearly every movie he makes, Scorsese worked with the Stones on concert documentary Shine A Light. I’m not so sure how the “40-year” gimmick will work out, but I don’t think anyone will care once they hear the series’ bound-to-be-fabulous soundtrack.
