Did you think that movie news was the only breaking information that came out of the San Diego Comic-Con? If you did, then you’ll be delighted to know that some of your favorite television shows have a major presence at the convention, which got started in a very big way today.
I’m happy to report two tantalizing updates on two hot programs. First up is AMC’s The Walking Dead – Frank Darabont’s serialized adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s beloved zombie-apocalypse comics. Today, we learned that Michael Rooker (Jumper, Days of Thunder) and Norman Reedus (Boondock Saints) have joined the cast of the show that will premiere this fall. In addition, Andrew Rothenberg (Jim), Juan Pareja (Morales), Iron E. Singleton (T-Dog), Jeryl Prescott Sales (Jacqui), Melissa McBride (Carol) and Adam Minarovich (Ed) have signed up as members of the “survivor’s camp.”
USA’s top-rated program Burn Notice also had a major announcement, as Jeff Wachtel, President of Original Programming, announced that the network would be producing a Burn Notice prequel movie starring Bruce Campbell as Sam Axe in his earlier days as an FBI agent. As a long-time fan of the show and Campbell, this is a big deal: Sam is the main reason the show has performed as well as it has and the production values are so high that it has always been ripe for a more cinematic experience. Though the prequel will still be relegated to the small screen, I’m very excited to delve deeper into the Sam’s backstory.
