TV Roundup: Selma Blair Joins ‘Anger Management’, Portia de Rossi Gets a New Show

Selma Blair A lot of the heat surrounding everything and anything related to Charlie Sheen has died down since the fall. But the actor isn’t out of the picture; he still has his FX comedy, Anger Management (based on the 2004 Adam Sandler/Jack Nicholson movie) in the works. Sheen has been set to play the central psychologist for some time, and he’s getting a colleague: Selma Blair, who has been dubbed the show’s leading lady. The Cruel Intentions star will portray another doctor, who helps Sheen’s character deal with the pressures of his life via therapy and, as it were, romance. Also cast is Shawnee Smith as Sheen’s character’s ex-wife. –EW

Portia de Rossi has proven herself an endless source of rapid fire comedy. From Ally McBeal to Arrested Development to Better Off Ted, de Rossi has been a beloved fixture in the world of television humor. She’s heading back to the small screen with a new series: The Smart One, which stars the comic actress as the outshined sister of an unintelligent-but-adored big city mayor who hires a resentful de Rossi to join her political staff. ABC has picked up the half-hour comedy, which will be written and executive produced by Donald Todd. Ellen DeGeneres, de Rossi’s wife and an unstoppable force in her own right, will also executive produce. –TVLine

The Big C has enjoyed the acting talents of Gabourey Sidibe since its first season. However, the Precious star has always been credited as a guest star. Finally, a long overdue promotion has been waged for Sidibe: she will be upped to a regular on the Showtime series. Sidibe plays Andrea, the student, tenant and closest friend of Cathy Jamison (Laura Linney), a Stage-4 cancer patient. The Big C is slated to return to Showtime on Sunday, April 8 at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT. –TVLine
