Tyra Banks confirmed as new Dancing With the Stars host

Tyra Banks will host the next season of U.S. TV ballroom dancing show Dancing With The Stars.

On Monday (July 13, 2020), it was confirmed Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews have been axed as the hosts of the ABC program, with Bergeron, who held the position since the show debuted in 2005, taking to Instagram to share the shock news.

“Just informed @DancingABC will be continuing without me. It’s been an incredible 15 year run and the most unexpected gift of my career. I’m grateful for that and for the lifelong friendships made. That said, now what am I supposed to do with all of these glitter masks?” he wrote.

And bosses wasted no time in lining up a replacement, confirming on Tuesday that America’s Next Top Model creator and host Banks was to take the helm.

“I’ve been a fan of Dancing With the Stars since its beginning,” she told Entertainment Tonight.

“The fun mixed with raw emotion, seeing celebrities push past their comfort zones, the sizzling dance performances… it’s always transported me to my days of turning it up 10 notches on the catwalk.

“Tom has set a powerful stage,” the former America’s Got Talent host added. “I’m excited to continue the legacy and put on my executive producer and hosting hats.”

In addition to hosting, Banks will also become an executive producer on the series.

Show bosses also welcomed the new addition to the franchise in a tweet, in which they also thanked Bergeron and Andrews “for so many seasons of glitz, glamour, and good times.”

The 29th season of Dancing With the Stars is due to air later this year.
