How to become an actor, even with no experience!

Your first step would be to find and go to acting classes. The acting resource company Backstage offers a list of places and institutions around you that have classes based on what you’re looking for. Classes range from scene study, techniques, audition techniques, on camera, improv, commercial, and much more. If you want to further your education, you can always seek out acting programs at different colleges.

Once you’ve started taking classes and feel more confident in your acting ability, look out for auditions for community theater productions. These are the best way to get your foot in the door. You’ll often discover open auditions for shows over social media. Backstage also offers you info on theater auditions in your area. Feel free to ask your acting teachers for help finding open calls cause they’re happy to lend their assistance.

It’s important to develop an acting resume of all your work and training and a headshot of yourself. This will help market yourself when you go to auditions.

Make sure to also check out student films in your area because that is always a great way to find opportunities to act. You can find these on Facebook and word of mouth.

From there, it would be important to seek out an agent that will help you get into audition rooms. Research research research! It’s important to find resources online, on social media, and from your own connections to find the best agent. It’s a bit of a process applying for an agent that not only works for you but isn’t taking advantage of you.
