As much as I love horror movies, they all kind of blend together UNLESS they have an interesting concept.
A Quiet Place brought out the fear that you can’t make a noise.
Birdbox had where you couldn’t speak.
But what if you couldn’t communicate?
That’s where the fear starts for ‘Come Play’. The film stars Oliver (Azhy Robertson), a young boy who has autism. Because of that, he has trouble making friends and keeps drawing a strange monster. His only way to communicate is through a tablet, but one day, through the tablet’s camera, he sees the monster known as Larry. This scares him of course but doesn’t have a way to really communicate that this thing exists, and only you can only see with a tablet. Then his friends, and finally his parents (Gillian Jacobs and John Gallagher Jr.) see what he sees and the movie really starts going.
Overall it’s a cool concept, even if the monster has been done before. Interested to see how a horror movie with kids will do.
‘Come Play’ releases in theaters on October 30, 2020.
