Set to hit the platform in fall 2025, Frankenstein promises to be a visual feast. The star-studded cast features Oscar Isaac alongside Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz, and whole slew of A+ talent. True to his style, del Toro is keeping The Monster under wraps in the marketing, building suspense and heightening the mystery around this dark and twisted take on the classic horror tale.

What to Expect from Del Toro’s Movie Frankenstein

Netflix has a solid lineup of movies this year, and while not every film or series hits the mark, there are a few guaranteed gems. One of those is anything by Guillermo del Toro. Whether he’s working on a project anywhere, you can count on it being visually stunning and engaging, even if the story doesn’t fully land. In 2025, we’re in for a lot of Frankenstein, with two major films based on the iconic character, and Netflix’s version is already generating buzz.

Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein has been a long-standing passion project for the director, and after years of development, it finally kicked off at Netflix last year.

Del Toro is writing, directing, and producing the film, alongside his Cabinet of Curiosities collaborator J. Miles Dale. The film’s official logline describes it as, “Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro adapts Mary Shelley’s classic tale of Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but egotistical scientist who brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.” The film is set to debut in fall 2025.
