There’s no true grit to be found in James Mangold’s fun but safe Western remake. Nitpicking, however, is no way to treat a movie that gives us two heavyweights like Russell Crowe and Christian Bale on top of their games.

Hostel: Part II gives new (and quite literal) meaning to a “bloodbath”--but not much else. Don’t worry, though. It doesn’t mean you won’t still walk out of there wanting to perform a castration or two.

The Painted Veil is a lushly photographed, costume-drama actor's piece, soggy in the second half from melodrama. It tries to unmask misguided attraction between two lovers in 1920's China, but it unravels under its own conceits.

Although Charlotte's Web suffers a little from Babe envy, it is still a very faithful and endearing live-action adaptation of the beloved children’s classic. It's the talking pig movie for the next generation!

Hollywoodland is a well-acted, moody and sumptuously evocative recreation of LA’s seemingly glamorous underbelly circa the 1950s but tries entirely too hard to be Chinatown.
