Dolly Musical: Parton Shares Her Story on Broadway
Parton expressed her excitement about bringing her life story to the stage, describing her journey as one worthy of a musical. Unlike previous projects inspired by her music, this production focuses on the woman behind the rhinestones, offering audiences a more personal look at her life, career, and legacy.

The Broadway production reunites Parton with director Bartlett Sher, who also helmed the Nashville premiere. The musical features a book by Parton and Maria S. Schlatter and combines beloved classics with original songs written specifically for the production.
Casting has not yet been announced. During the Nashville run, three performers portrayed Parton at different stages of her life, though it has not been confirmed whether the same format will be used on Broadway.
Creative Team and Ticket Information
The production boasts an acclaimed creative team, including choreography by Mandy Moore, scenic design by Derek McLane, costume design by Jennifer Moeller, lighting by Donald Holder, and music supervision by Stephen Oremus.
Parton’s longtime collaborators Richard Dennison and Gregg Perry are also returning to help shape the show’s vocal arrangements and music.
Fans eager to attend won’t have to wait long to secure seats. Presale tickets become available on July 8 for Dolly fans and eligible Capital One cardholders, while general ticket sales begin on July 10.
A New Broadway Chapter for Dolly Parton
The Dolly Musical marks Parton’s return to musical theatre following her work on the Broadway adaptation of 9 to 5, for which she wrote the original score, including the iconic title song.
Producers say the Broadway version has been refined following audience feedback from Nashville, with an even deeper focus on Parton’s life beyond her legendary music career. By exploring her personal journey, generosity, and enduring influence, the production aims to celebrate one of country music’s most beloved icons while introducing her story to a new generation of theatergoers.
