Illumination has officially unveiled details about its upcoming original animated movie, Not Alone, including a release date and a star-studded voice cast led by Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez.
Known for blockbuster franchises such as Despicable Me, Minions, Sing, and The Secret Life of Pets, the studio is taking audiences on a brand-new adventure with Not Alone, an original sci-fi comedy set to hit theaters in 2027.
Not Alone Cast & Plot: Everything We Know
In his first feature-length animated role, Timothée Chalamet voices Joe, an introverted rocket mechanic who prefers a quiet life on his own. Selena Gomez stars as Fran, a gifted astro-botanist developing the world’s first plant-powered rocket.
When Joe and Fran are brought together to prepare for the rocket’s inaugural launch, sparks begin to fly. However, their growing connection is interrupted by three lovable alien fugitives who secretly take refuge in Joe’s home.
The aliens — Dunk, Welly, and Shirm — are voiced by Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan, and Jamie Demetriou. Hoping to return safely to their home planet, they see Fran’s revolutionary rocket as their best chance for escape.
Meanwhile, Brett Goldstein voices Officer Zandro, a determined but bumbling law enforcement officer pursuing the trio across the galaxy. The supporting cast also includes Allison Janney and Lamorne Morris.
Not Alone Release Date
Universal Pictures has confirmed that Not Alone will open exclusively in theaters on April 16, 2027.

The film was previously listed on Universal’s release calendar as an untitled Illumination project. Now officially revealed, Not Alone promises a mix of romance, comedy, science fiction, and family-friendly adventure as it joins the studio’s growing lineup of original animated stories.
