Anya Taylor-Joy is heading to Middle-earth.
The acclaimed actress has officially joined the cast of The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, the next big-screen installment in the beloved fantasy franchise. Directed by Andy Serkis, who will once again portray the iconic character Gollum, the film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 17, 2027.
Anya Taylor-Joy will play Seren, a Sindar Elf from the Woodland Realm. Described as a highly skilled and trusted operative serving King Thranduil, the character is expected to play a key role in the story’s unfolding events.
Set between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogies, The Hunt for Gollum follows a mission led by Aragorn and Gandalf as they search for Gollum. Their goal is to uncover information about the mysterious ring once carried by Bilbo Baggins before its true danger becomes known across Middle-earth.
Several familiar faces from the franchise are returning for the film, including Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins, and Lee Pace as Thranduil. Taylor-Joy joins a growing ensemble that also includes Kate Winslet, Jamie Dornan, and Leo Woodall in newly created roles.
The project reunites key creative figures behind the franchise, with Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, and Zane Weiner producing. Walsh and Boyens also wrote the screenplay alongside Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou.
For Anya Taylor-Joy, the role adds another major franchise to her growing résumé. Fans will also see her in Apple TV+’s Lucky and Denis Villeneuve’s highly anticipated Dune: Part Three.
With a blend of returning favorites and new characters, The Hunt for Gollum aims to expand the world of Middle-earth for a new generation of moviegoers.
