Filming on Deadpool 2 will reportedly resume on Wednesday (16Aug17), two days after the death of a stuntwoman.
Joi Harris, the first female African-American licensed to compete in American Motorcyclist Association races, died on Monday when she lost control of her motorcycle during a stunt and crashed through the glass facade of a tower block on the film’s set in Vancouver, Canada.
According to editors at Deadline.com, the film’s crew will start shooting again on Wednesday, despite British Columbia Coroners Service conducting an investigation into the motorcycle racer’s death.
Deadpool 2 was Harris‘ debut as a stuntwoman. She was doubling for actress Zazie Beetz, who plays mutant hero Domino in the sequel to 2016 superhero blockbuster Deadpool.
She was reportedly not wearing a helmet when the accident occurred because Domino doesn’t wear one in the scene.
After Harris‘ death, the movie’s director David Leitch issued a statement paying tribute to the race driver.
“I’m deeply saddened by the loss of one of our stunt performers today,” he said. “No words can express how I and the rest of the Deadpool 2 crew feel about this tragedy. Our thoughts are with her family, friends and loved ones in this difficult time.”
Ryan Reynolds, who plays the film’s title character, also paid tribute to the stuntwoman.

“Today, we tragically lost a member of our crew while filming Deadpool. We’re heartbroken, shocked and devastated… but recognize nothing can come close to the grief and inexplicable pain her family and loved ones must feel in this moment. My heart pours out to them – along with each and every single person she touched in this world,” he wrote in a statement posted on Instagram.
Deadpool 2 is due for release next June.
