Oscars Nominations 2024: See the Full List Led by ‘Oppenheimer’

On this early Tuesday morning, Oscar nominations were announced for the 96th Academy Awards, with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer blasting its way to the top with an astonishing 13 nominations. They were revealed early this morning by Jack Quaid and Zazie Beetz from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Los Angeles, California.

With the recent Emmys and Golden Globes already behind us, the 2024 awards season is in full swing. The unveiling of the Oscar nominations allows us to anticipate who will be honored on Hollywood’s biggest night. Alongside Oppenheimer, other notable films received significant recognition. Poor Things, Killers of the Flower Moon, and Barbie garnered 11, 10, and eight nominations respectively.

In addition to the impressive nominations for Killers of the Flower Moon, Martin Scorsese earned his 10th directing nomination, solidifying his status as the most nominated living movie director. Furthermore, Lily Gladstone made history as the first Native American acting nominee, showcasing her talent in the film.

While there were expected and deserving nominees, there were also notable snubs and surprises. One prominent example is Greta Gerwig, who was overlooked for Best Director despite her groundbreaking achievement with the blockbuster film Barbie, which holds the record as the highest-grossing movie ever directed by a woman. Equally deserving of recognition is Margot Robbie, whose absence from the Best Actress nominees is surprising.

There were other notable misses as well. Leonardo DiCaprio’s outstanding performance in Killers of the Flower Moon went unrecognized, and talented young actors like Dominic Sessa and Charles Melton were also overlooked for their respective supporting roles in The Holdovers and May December. Additionally, it was surprising to see Celine Song, the director of Past Lives, not being nominated for Best Director, especially considering that both her film and Gerwig’s were nominated for Best Picture.

As we prepare to delve into this captivating array of nominations, take a seat and craft a delightful Oscars-inspired cocktail while you peruse the list of nominees.
