New Release Dates for Productions Affected by the SAG-AFTRA Strike

While the WGA strike has resolved as a win for writers earlier this year, the SAG-AFTRA Strike has just concluded as of last night! The end of the SAG-AFTRA strike marks a significant milestone for the entertainment industry. After weeks of negotiations and disruptions, the resolution of this labor dispute brings a sense of relief and optimism that the film industry can continue to get better for the writers, actors, and crew members who are the backbone of the industry.

Of course, one necessary aspect of the strikes is how they brought many aspects of the film industry to a halt. Because of this, many upcoming films have had to be pushed back. Read on as we update you on 10 of the most highly anticipated movies coming out, and how their release dates have been affected by the strikes.

Beetlejuice 2 (2025)

In this zany follow up to the 90s cult classic, Michael Keaton is stepping back into his iconic role as Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice 2 was in the production stage before the strike, however, even with any more reshoot days scheduled, the film is projected to come out sometime in 2025.

Captain America: Brave New World (2024)

Taking place after The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, we continue to follow Sam Wilson’s journey as he continues to carry the mantle as the new Captain America. It has been reported that the next Captain America film, Captain America: Brave New World will arrive in theaters on July 26, 2024.

What Happens Later (2023)

The rom com it girl has made it back to the big screen! After landing an interim deal with SAG-AFTRA, What Happens Later was able to be released in theaters this past Friday (November 3, 2023).

This modern day rom com stars Meg Ryan beside David Duchovny as two old flames who are stuck together on an extended layover to different cities. And of course, shenanigans ensue, and sparks fly.

Ordinary Angels (2024)

Ordinary Angels is scheduled to be released theatrically by Lionsgate on February 23, 2024. The film was originally scheduled to be released on October 13, 2023, before the date was delayed to avoid competition with the concert film, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour and the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.

A struggling hairdresser finds a renewed sense of purpose when she meets a widowed father working hard to care for his two daughters. With his youngest critically ill and waiting for a liver transplant, the fierce woman single-handedly rallies an entire community to help.

Priscilla (2023)

Priscilla premiered at the 80th Venice International Film and also had a limited release in the United States by A24 before expanding wide on November 3. A24 films are able to stay mainly on schedule now as the studio early on had met WGA and SAG-AFTRA standards and so received the greenlight to proceed business as usual.

Priscilla tells the story of teenaged Priscilla Beaulieu and her whirlwind relationship with Elvis Presley after meeting him at a party.

Kraven the Hunter (2024)

Kraven the Hunter was meant to release September 6th of this year, however, is now scheduled for August 30, 2024. The film follows Russian immigrant Sergei Kravinoff who must prove himself to be the greatest hunter in the world.

White Bird (No Date)

White Bird currently has no official release date announced yet. There is speak of it still premiering in Q4 this year still, but no firm dates announced.

White Bird follows the story of Julian has struggled to belong ever since he was expelled from his former school for bullying another student. Upon learning this, his grandmother finally reveals her own story of courage during her youth in Nazi-occupied France.

All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt (2023)

This latest release from independent production company A24 was able to release this year on November 3rd.

All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt is a debut from Tennessean director Raven Jackson. This film is a non linear experience. Sculpted from her own Southern roots, All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt displays rich imagery over dialogue, with scenes flowing into each other.

Maestro (2023)

Maestro was able to premiere internationally at the 80th Venice International Film Festival. Back stateside, the film is scheduled for a limited theatrical release on November 22, 2023.  It will also be streaming on Netflix on December 20, 2023.

 Deadpool 3 (2024)

The mesmerizing sight of  on the set of Deadpool 3, donning his iconic Wolverine costume absolutely sent Marvel fans into a frenzy. After the delays from the strike, Deadpool 3 is aiming to hit theaters May 3, 2024. In it, Wolverine crosses paths with Deadpool, and team up to defeat a big bad that threatens both of them.
