10 years ago the only movie remake we’ve ever enjoyed was released – Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a retake on 1971’s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory starring the eccentrically wonderful Gene Wilder. Many think that remaking this film was silly, given Wilder’s incredible performance as Willy Wonka, but we think Johnny Depp was the perfect person to replace him.
Johnny as Willy Wonka is strangely perfect:
But he’s also pretty weird:

He’s honest as hell, which is mega respectable:
Charlie is probably the cutest (and sweetest) kid to ever exist:
Really, Charlie is the perfect kid we all should have been:
This movie taught us that cannibalism is frowned up in most societies:
Veruca Salt was evil but we loved it:
“Daddy, I want a squirrel! Get me one of those squirrels, I want one!” – Priceless
And she and Violet Beauregarde know that evil kids should stick together:

Augustus Gloop’s story about finding his Golden Ticket is life-changing:
“I EAT MORE CANDY!”
He very clearly loves his candy:
The Oompa Loompas are still just as terrifying as they were before:
After meeting Mike Teavee, we learned not to mumble:

“Violet, you’re turning violet!”:

Charlie going to the factory gave Willy a new friend that finally understood him:
And isn’t that the most adorable, heartwarming message from a movie presumably about chocolate? We sure think so.
