  • DEATHS: Victor Borge, 91
By: Mauricio Minotta August 15, 2001 11:35am EST
HOLLYWOOD, Dec. 26, 2000 -- Comedian and pianist Victor Borge died in his sleep from heart failure, Reuters reports. He was 91. Borge had recently returned to his Greenwich, Conn., home from a concert in Copenhagen when he went to sleep Saturday evening and never woke up. He would have turned 92 on Jan. 3. Borge made a career of falling off his piano, missing keys with his hands and getting tangled up in his sheet music. "Playing music and making jokes are as natural to me as breathing," Borge t

First the good news for the Backstreet Boys: When it comes to the number of albums they can sell in a week, BSB is, by far, tops. The pop idols sold 5 million units of their latest album, “Black & Blue," worldwide the first week out, Reuters reports -- a new record. But it wasn't as good of news for the boy band here in the States. Released Nov. 21, "Black & Blue" sold 1.6 million copies in the United States in its debut week, an impressive feat but placing them third on the list of the largest

HOLLYWOOD, Jan. 9, 2001 -- Country crossover sensation Faith Hill was the top winner at the 28th Annual American Music Awards on Monday night, walking away with three trophies but not before letting the audience in on her husband's dirty secret. The singing beauty left an impression on the three-hour-long show with what perhaps was the strangest, or raunchiest, comment made during her acceptance speech for the Favorite Female Country Artist award. "I was going to wear my husband's underwear, bu

LAS VEGAS, Nev., Dec. 6, 2000 -- Call it musical "Smackdown." The 2000 Billboard Music Awards featured some of the rowdiest wrestling and name-calling not associated with the WWF. And that's just from the hosts. Held Tuesday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and hosted by 'N Sync and actress Kathy Griffin, the telecast kicked off with the pep-rally cattle call "Who Let the Dogs Out" performed by the Baha Men and soon turned into an episodic comedy with some well-engineered face-of

By: Don Chareunsy July 31, 2001 12:30pm EST
HOLLYWOOD, Oct. 19, 2000 -- Zack De La Rocha, the lead singer of Rage Against the Machine, has quit the politically outspoken rock band, saying in a statement Wednesday that the band's "decision-making process has completely failed." The singer didn't detail any problems other than to say that the L.A.-based rap-metal quartet's "artistic and political ideal" had been undermined. Rage, which has advocated causes such as the Zapatista uprising in Mexico and the rights of workers in sweatshops, pe

HOLLYWOOD, July 25, 2000 -- What goes around comes around. At least perhaps for Eminem. The controversial rapper finds himself competing alongside the hotties of ’N Sync, the boyband he lambastes in his hit single "The Real Slim Shady," after the nominations for the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards were announced today. ’N Sync and Em scored six nominations apiece and will square off in the video of the year and viewer’s choice categories. "The Real Slim Shady" also garnered nods for best male video
