A24 has released the first full-length Primetime trailer, offering a closer look at Robert Pattinson’s transformation into television journalist Chris Hansen. Directed by Lance Oppenheim, the upcoming drama explores the origins of To Catch a Predator, the controversial true-crime series that became a television phenomenon.
The film is set to premiere in competition at the Venice International Film Festival before arriving exclusively in theaters this fall.
Primetime Trailer
The Primetime trailer follows Pattinson’s Hansen as he works to turn his reporting into something much bigger. The footage shows Hansen receiving encouragement from former NBCUniversal executive Jeff Zucker, who appears as himself and tells him that To Catch a Predator needs to move into primetime.
Hansen quickly embraces the opportunity, declaring that he could become bigger than Lost. The trailer also recreates some of the familiar confrontations associated with the original television series, including Hansen questioning suspected predators after undercover operations.
The footage hints that the movie will explore both the rise of the program and the complicated ethics surrounding its approach to crime reporting.
Cast and Plot
Pattinson leads the cast as Hansen, with Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo and Phoebe Bridgers also starring. Oppenheim directs from a screenplay by Ajon Singh.
The story chronicles Hansen’s early work on To Catch a Predator, which featured journalists, law enforcement officers and decoys posing as minors online to expose suspected child predators.
Release Date
Primetime will premiere at the Venice International Film Festival before receiving an exclusive theatrical release on September 25, 2026, from A24.
With Pattinson taking on the role of one of television’s most recognizable journalists, Primetime could offer a provocative look at the making of a controversial television sensation.
