  • Taylor Swift To Release New Album: What Should it Be About?
By: Abbey Stone August 14, 2012 12:48pm EST
After a 25-minute long Web chat and G+ Hangout with her fans on Monday night, Taylor Swift is seeing Red. But, like, in a good way. Swift announced that on October 22 she will release her first new LP since her 2010 album Speak Now. The album, titled Red, will take a look at the explosive relationships she's had in the past few years.  For Swift, the title conjures a whole host of jumbled emotions. "Thinking about … all the different emotions that are written about on this album, they're all pretty much about the kind of tumultuous, crazy, insane, intense, semi-toxic relationships that I've experienced in the last two years," she told her fans during the Hangout. "There's nothing beige about any of those feelings, so I called the record Red." Swift also played Red's first single for her fans. It's called "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together." Wonder what that one could be about. Instead of speculating about the song's subject (although our money is on John Mayer), we're going to give Swift a free pass. She is reportedly in a happy relationship with the adorable Conor Kennedy, so we're going to refrain from dragging the skeletons of her past love life up from their graves. Come to think of it, a happy relationship could be songwriting kryptonite for the young country pop star. To help out our little songbird, here's a list of other things Swift could write about when her well of love problems runs dry. Her Cat Of course Swift would have the cutest cat ever. Of course. With her curly ears and little paws and snuggly nose, Meredith is just hugs and giggles personified — or, certified. Plenty of fodder for a good song. Meeting Her Best Friend We have every meet-cute moment between Swift and her ex-boyfriends chronicled in lyrical, musical form, but what about Swift's lady friends? We know she hangs out with celebrity pals like Selena Gomez and Emma Stone constantly, but how did they meet? Why does she love them? What do they do when they hang out? Write us a friendship song, Taylor! We'll play it at every slumber party ever for the rest of our lives.  Going to College So this isn't something Swift has personal experience with, but it's something most people her age are going through. And Taylor is pretty familiar with the nerves associated with leaving home for the first time We think she should channel these feelings into a song about moving on from high school. It could be like the next generation's "Graduation (Friends Forever)."   Getting Your Own Place Part of being a grownup is moving into your own apartment, sans Mom and Pop, and fixing it up all pretty. And buying furniture. Is there anything more stressful than buying furniture? Do you want a leather couch or an upholstered couch? A loveseat or a futon? And why is everything so expensive?! Buying a couch is an awful lot like finding a boyfriend … But I digress. God Go ahead, Taylor, dive into the deep end. First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes death, right? What does Swift think of the afterlife? Does she believe in reincarnation? We'd love to see Swift tackle the complex existential questions associated with an entity greater than oneself — set to a catchy country twang, naturally. • What's in a Name? Jennifer Aniston's Movie Titles Mirror Her Relationships
By: Abbey Stone August 13, 2012 10:15am EST
After a big weekend, Jennifer Aniston is most likely spending her Monday purchasing bridal magazines and ooh-ing over flower arrangements. She should be in relationship bliss after her boyfriend of over a year, Justin Theroux, popped the question on Friday on his birthday. But, if you've been keeping track, the road to love has been a bumpy one for Aniston.  In 2009, Aniston shared an interesting theory to those in attendance at the Women In Film Awards: Her personal life runs a surprising parallel to the movies she's making. From The Good Girl to Rumor Has It, then Derailed and finally The Break-Up, her films' titles do bear a striking resemblance to the events leading up to her infamous divorce from Brad Pitt in 2005. But the similarities don't stop there. The titles of Aniston's more recent films continue her dating saga. Love Happens (2009): Aniston dated John Mayer from 2008-2009, making it her longest relationship since her split from Pitt three years earlier. Aniston was giddy when she spoke about Mayer on Ellen in 2009, indicating that she may have finally found love. However, the relationship ended after nearly a year. According to an interview Mayer did with Rolling Stone in January 2010, it seems like Aniston was the one to end the relationship. "I've never really gotten over it. It was one of the worst times of my life," Mayer said. He's Just Not That Into You (2009): In June of 2009, Aniston reportedly went on one date with Bradley Cooper. Since the flirtation never bloomed into a full-on relationship, our bet is that he just wasn't into it. The Switch (2010): In 2010, Aniston was linked to her Bounty Hunter costar Gerard Butler. Sick of American men, she decided to make "the switch" to a burly Scot. Just Go With It (2011): Here's where her romances start getting cute. Aniston began dating her now-fiancé Justin Theroux in May of 2011. Things started out slow, with friends' dinner dates and, according to Us Weekly, "hanging out." But at some point, Aniston must have decided to "just go with it," and let herself fall in love. Burning Love (2012): Ye-ah! Engagement city! We'd say a ring on her finger means that things are heating up for Aniston and Theroux. On the flip side, Theroux's film titles indicate that he's been the perfect man for Aniston all along. He is just The Ten she was looking for, and their relationship has led to a Happy End to her dating woes. (Not to mention, we're sure the two are enjoying lots of Sex and the City.)  Let's hope that Aniston's titular parallels end here, though. In 2013 she's releasing a film called Miss You Already... • Taylor Swift's Perfect Man
By: Abbey Stone August 02, 2012 1:44pm EST
Girl next door Taylor Swift may be sweeter than apple pie on a summer's day, but she sure does have a lot of boyfriends. After being linked to Arnold Schwarzenegger's 18-year-old son Patrick Schwarzenegger over the 4th of July, Swift now only has eyes for Schwarzenegger's cousin, Conor Kennedy. We wish Kennedy the best of luck, because before he knows it he may be little more than a smudge of mascara-stained tears on Swift's check and a number one single on the Billboard charts. Since we wish Swift nothing but roses and butterflies in her love life, we've put together a little something special. Introducing, Mr. Perfect. Made entirely of the very best parts of Swift's past celebrity boyfriends, he's all any girl would ever want in a guy. Oh my gosh, enjoy it, y'all! • Katy Perry and John Mayer: Say it Ain't So!
By: Abbey Stone August 02, 2012 11:23am EST
After much are-they-aren't-they speculation, a photo of Katy Perry and John Mayer leaving L.A.'s Chateau Marmont on Wednesday has finally hit the Internet. With no canoodling caught on film (yet) and no statement from Perry and Mayer's reps, we can't confirm that the two are officially an item — but it looks pretty dang close. Just close enough to make us nervous… If ex-husband Russell Brand is any indication, Perry has a penchant for guys who are a bit, let's say, edgy. Unfortunately, bad things often happen to girls who date bad boys — heartbreak, for one. And yet, here Perry is, on to bad boy numero dos. Notorious ladies man Mayer doesn't seem like the ideal choice of boyfriend for someone healing from a divorce.   We are confident that in some dusty, repressed corner of her mind, Perry knows this. Heck, her songs are filled with girl power mantras and I-am-woman-hear-me-roar refrains. This is our plea: Perry needs to take her own advice before it's too late! "Hot N Cold" Perry's second single is all about finding the moxie to leave a game-playing dude and about getting out of a relationship that's filled with more drama than an episode of The Hills. "I should know / that you're no good for me," Perry sings. Yeah, you should.  "Thinking of You" You know how they say that those who do not remember the past are doomed to repeat it? Yeah, this is kind of like that. "Now the lesson's learned / I touched it, I was burned," Perry sings. I don't know about you, but when I get burned I back away from the flame (even thought it's hot).   "Firework" "Firework" is Perry's call to arms of all the disenfranchised little people of the world. "You is kind. You is smart. You is important," she says. Also, "You gotta ignite the light and let is shine / just own the night like the 4th of July." Here, here! A woman with that much confidence knows better than to get involved with a guitar-playing Don Juan.  "Wide Awake" We all know that "Wide Awake" is Perry's most direct response to her divorce from Brand. It's about how she has risen from the rubble of her marriage as a stronger, wiser, and more in control of her life than ever before. Perry sings, "I wish I knew then / what I know now / I wouldn't dive in / wouldn't bow down." She knows a thing or two now, let's hope she's smart enough to notice warning signs should they rear their ugly, heart-breaking heads. • Katy Perry's Bikini Bottom Problems: Three Embarrassing PICS
By: Lindsey DiMattina July 30, 2012 8:18am EST
Yikes! Get ready to be "Wide Awake" after you check out these three funny/embarrassing pics of Katy Perry. While many sites have been focusing on the rumors that the 27-year-old singer has been feeling some Fireworks with ladies man/player John Mayer during a trip to Miami over the weekend, there's a bit of chatter they forgot to discuss: the fact that Perry was photographed in three compromising positions while sporting a tiny bikini. In the first pic, seen below, Perry looks to be just trying to enjoy a cocktail. But, she seems unaware of the fact that her bikini bottom has slipped down exposing her derriere. In the second shot, Perry has another problem with the lower part of her bikini. In attempt to keep it from riding up in all the wrong places, Perry is caught picking a wedgie. Lastly, people can't help but stare at the famous star — but this one guy seems to be looking in inappropriate directions. This shot makes it look like he is checking out Perry's booty. Poor California Gurl. Part of Me wants to tell her to fix that bikini, but then again we wouldn't have anything to entertain us on this quiet summer Monday. Follow Lindsey in Twitter @LDiMat. • Step Up Revolution Review
By: Jenni Miller July 27, 2012 7:23am EST
The latest movie in the Step Up franchise aims for a politicized message behind all the flashy moves but it could do with a lot less plot and a lot more dancing. In Step Up Revolution the Miami dance group "The Mob" takes to the streets (and other random locations) to perform intricately choreographed routines with their own DJ a camera guy who uploads their videos to YouTube and a graffiti artist who leaves their signature behind. It takes at least that much effort just to get hipster New Yorkers to ride the subways without any pants on once a year; it's hard to believe that The Mob could pull off their elaborate schemes without getting caught but that's the magic of movies. The Mob represents the more diverse working class side of Miami a young multiracial group of friends who create incredible works of art that disappear before they get shut down. One of the Mob's leaders Sean (Ryan Guzman) earnestly explains to newcomer Emily (Kathryn McCormick) that the group's reason is to give a voice to the voiceless or to be happy or to dance or something. It's not really clear but they have a lot of fun and look amazing doing it. Once Sean and his friends find out that a greedy developer plans to raze their neighborhood to make way for another South Beach-style hotel monstrosity they have a reason to rally but until then they're just trying to win a cash prize by getting clicks on YouTube. The typical Step Up twist is that Emily is the developer's daughter. Mr. Anderson (Peter Gallagher) doesn't approve of Emily's love of dancing or other frippery and he certainly wouldn't approve of her hanging out with the people causing such mayhem in the streets of Miami. Step Up Revolution biggest misstep is trying to give the movie more of a hook than the franchise's typical Romeo and Juliet-style love story and tap into "the Zeitgeist" (I swear that's from the studio-provided press notes) of flash mobs. The film could have cut out most of the plot and characters and still have a completely intact film insofar as the point of the film is its multimedia dance routines. The sort of productions The Mob pulls off are more akin to carefully planned art installations or music videos in terms of scope; it would have been better to at least make that somehow feasible in terms of the storyline. Yes we are here for a spectacle and we surely get a spectacle but it needs to have some roots in reality. The dance scenes are fun sexy and occasionally a little sappy but overall quite enjoyable for people who enjoy "So You Think You Can Dance" type of shows. Kathryn McCormick and Stephen "tWitch" Boss both appeared on "SYTYCD" and their costar Misha Gabriel is a classically trained ballet dancer turned pro back-up dancer for folks like Beyoncé and Michael Jackson. Guzman doesn't have a dance background but he is an MMA fighter who obviously took his training very seriously. The entire outfit is pretty damn entertaining to be honest. As far as the 3D goes it makes most of Miami look overcast and grey. The extra zings added in to make sure we get our money's worth like sand flicking out at us or a breakdancer whose foot seems to be aiming for our face only serves to distract from the real show at hand. There is also an awful lot of ramping and generally spazzy editing tricks that look cheap. The screenplay by Amanda Brody is definitely not its strong suit. Step Up Revolution is the cinematic equivalent of a trashy beach novel. It's embarrassing to be caught actually enjoying it and you'll forget about it almost immediately but it's a decent way to spend a summer afternoon.
  • Who Was the First Celebrity to Come Out of the Closet?
By: Brian Moylan July 09, 2012 12:50pm EST
Last week, both Odd Future singer Frank Ocean and longtime glass closet denizen Anderson Cooper both came out of the closet. In the few months before that, we saw both stripper-with-a-body-of-gold Matthew Bomer and Big Bang Theory übernerd Jim Parsons make the declaration too. At this rate, everyone in Hollywood will be openly gay by 2015! But who was the first celebrity to come out of the closet? Despite what you might think, it wasn't Ellen DeGeneres, Neil Patrick Harris, or even fitness guru Richard Simmons (who, to my knowledge, has never professed his love for anything other than aerobics and short shorts). It was an actor named Billy Haines. But Haines didn't get his People magazine cover — the actor lived in the 1920s as a silent film star who was a huge box office draw, thanks to films like The Midnight Express, Little Annie Rooney, and Navy Blues. His luck only continued in 1926, when he met his life-long partner Jimmy Shields in New York before the couple moved in together in Los Angeles. While their partnership was well known in Tinsel Town, it was still a secret to the public.  That all changed in 1933, when Haines was arrested in a YMCA after getting frisky with a sailor (only four decades before the Village People!) and his sexual orientation became public. Louis B. Mayer, the infamous head of MGM studio which had Haines under contract, demanded that Haines marry a woman and denounce being a homosexual in the press. Haines, however, refused in order to stay with Shields, and because of his respectable pride, the actor's contract was canceled.  Haines never worked as an actor again. Instead, he became an interior decorator for stars like Joan Crawford, making him the envy of every gay decorator that has ever lived (and there have been a few). As it turns out, the actor was well ahead of his time. It wasn't until the '60s when stars would come out again — and, when they did, the discovery was hardly met with celebration. Tommy Kirk, a Disney child actor who starred in The Shaggy Dog and The Absent-Minded Professor, came out in 1963 at age 22 after Walt Disney found out he had a sexual relationship with a teenage boy. He was fired by the studio and, while he did outreach work for the gay community, never had steady acting work again (although he eventually started a carpet cleaning business). According to Sal Mineo's website, the Giant and Rebel Without a Cause actor came out in the late '60s, but he was killed in 1976 in a robbery gone bad. Indeed, things did get better for gay Hollywood elite, even if some felt they had to qualify their sexual preference in order to be accepted in the industry. Laying the groundwork for other musicians to be as gay as they wanna be, Elton John came out as bisexual in a 1976 interview with Rolling Stone. But as we all know, Elton turned out to be "bi now, gay later," and only admitted he was, in fact, homosexual after divorcing wife Renate Blauel in 1988.  In the late '80s, a rash of British actors including Ian McKellen, Rupert Everett, and Stephen Frye came out and their revelations refreshingly didn't impact their careers — after all, McKellen went on to costar in two of the most successful franchises of all time, The Lord of the Rings and X-Men. That industry- and fan-wide acceptance lead to our modern age, which sees celebrities periodically come out of the closet with nary a shrug (unless, of course, you're a headline writer). While there have been many trailblazers to make it safe for gay actors to live and work openly, we all really have Billy Haines to thank, who made a very tough decision back when it had very difficult consequences. Maybe Frank Ocean should dedicate a song or two to him? • Patrick Schwarzenegger Wants Taylor Swift's Pal, Miley Cyrus
By: Michelle Lee July 08, 2012 6:55am EST
For being such a smart, talented girl, Taylor Swift has phenomenally bad taste in men.  Well, now, the 22-year-old Grammy winner/wounded puppy is cozying up to Arnold Schwarzenegger (the king of bad relationship decisions) and Maria Shriver's 18-year-old son, Patrick Schwarzenegger.  The duo were spotted hugging and laughing on July 4 at the Kennedy compound in Hyannis Port, Mass. And a source tells Us Weekly the pair are "getting to know each other, but she thinks he's cute!" But Swift could be in for another round of sad songwriting. Not that long ago, in a Details magazine interview, the young Schwarzenegger told the mag he was interested in some other hot young starlets.  "Patrick cockily refers to his tweet-mates Kendall Jenner and Selena Gomez as 'girls for the future.' 'My eye, though,' he adds, 'is set on Miley.'" Gomez, of course is a long-time Swift friend and she's had a love/hate friendship with Miley Cyrus for years.  On the bright side: this could take the spotlight off of John Mayer for a while.  More: Miley Cyrus Can't Keep Her Clothes On: Six Degrees of Naked Taylor Swift and Tebow: Their Post-Oscars Dinner DateJohn Mayer on Ellen: Officially Not a Jerk Anymore — VIDEO
  • Carly Rae Jepson Reveals Crush on Taylor Swift's Ex John Mayer
    By: Hollywood.com Staff June 27, 2012 5:42pm EST
Carly Rae Jepson is having the best year ever, with her hit song "Call Me Maybe." But the pop star says there was another moment that really made her year.  The singer tells People magazine that serial dater John Mayer sent her a very personal gift. "[He] sent a note in a little wooden box that said, 'Embrace and enjoy your first hit. There's more to come.' I was acting like a 12-year-old. He's a great songwriter — and not bad to look at!" A word of advice, Carly: run away. Run far, far away. Remember this is the guy who just slammed his ex-fling, another young female pop star, Taylor Swift.  The reformed jerk/jerk-again slammed Swift for penning the song "Dear John," which was allegedly about their former relationship. "It made me feel terrible," said Mayer, who's also dated Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Simpson. "Because I didn't deserve it. I'm pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do." • John Mayer: Officially a Jerk Again!
By: Kelly Schremph June 06, 2012 11:01am EST
Well that didn't take long. Just weeks after John Mayer appeared on The Ellen Show, claiming to be a changed man, he's proven once again that he'll always be — first and foremost — a complete and utter jerk. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone magazine, the 34-year-old singer slams Taylor Swift for penning the song "Dear John," which was allegedly about their former relationship. "It made me feel terrible," Mayer tells the magazine, whose latest issue will be on newsstands June 8. "Because I didn't deserve it. I'm pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do." He also goes on to say just how surprised he was when he first heard Swift's lyrics. "I was really caught off-guard, and it really humiliated me at a time when I'd already been dressed down," he says. "I mean, how would you feel if, at the lowest you've ever been, someone kicked you even lower?" Swift's song appeared on her best-selling 2010 album Speak Now and included lyrics like: "Dear John, I see it all, now it was wrong / Don't you think 19 is too young to be played by your dark twisted games, when I loved you so?" Sure, he has the right to be a little upset, but, as always, Mayer proceeded to take things too far and started name-calling. "I will say as a songwriter that I think it's kind of cheap songwriting," he says. "I know she's the biggest thing in the world, and I'm not trying to sink anybody's ship, but I think it's abusing your talent to rub your hands together and go, 'Wait till he gets a load of this!' That's bulls—t." Anyone who knows anything about Swift would contest that she doesn't have a vindictive bone in her body. She was hurt and this song is how her 19-year-old self coped with the situation. Mayer, at the very least, should be respectful of that. Plus, taking aim at Swift is like throwing rocks at a puppy: Totally and completely cruel. And why is he bringing this up now when the song has been around for two years? Not to mention, the entirety of his album, Battle Studies, is almost certainly a product of his past relationship with Jennifer Aniston. Pot, meet Kettle. His harsh commentary seems to proves how little he's really changed. You mess with Swift and you're going to get burned. Just ask Kanye.
