It's tough out there for a new TV show. Creators put their hearts and souls into pilots, introducing their baby bird-like new series into the big, harsh world, all the while, hoping and praying their baby can fly. Well, as you know, some shows flourish and some shows plummet. Others glide along, barely getting by or delaying the inevitable: cancellation. It's a cruel, swift death we often call The Ax. Each week during Fall Premiere Season, we'll take a look at the ratings for fall's new crop of shows and tell you which ones are flapping their baby wings just hard enough, which ones are flying, and which ones sadly, will be a victim of the Ax Factor. This week, NBC showed mercy on its struggling comedy Guys With Kids, while CBS cancelled its own ratings dud, Partners.
Kristen Stewart's Future Career
Translation: Safe! Revolution (NBC, Mondays at 10 PM ET): Woah! Even the most popular kids in school have their bad days, and last Monday night was a disaster for Revolution. It's going on hiatus for four months to keep up its pairing with The Voice, and hopefully its March return will bring in higher numbers than Monday's. 7.1 million viewers and a 2.6 in the demo isn't the worst news — but the fact that it's slipping every week is something to worry about for next year. Go On (NBC, Tuesdays at 9 PM ET): Not bad, Chandler! Therapy was in session for 6.3 million viewers (a 2.3 in the demo) this week, and the sitcom was second in its time slot. We're already placing our bets on a Season 2. The New Normal (NBC, Tuesdays at 9:30 PM ET): The New Normal isn't doing nearly as well as Go On, only bringing in 4.7 million viewers and a 1.8 in the demo. Still, it also won second place in its time slot, and has a full-season order. So, nothing to worry about here.
Ben and Kate (Fox, Tuesdays at 8:30 PM ET): Yikes. The siblings are safe for now, but the numbers this week were abysmal — 2.5 million and a 1.1 in the demo. That's a 21 percent drop, and doesn't bode well for a Season 2.
The Mindy Project (Fox, Tuesdays at 9:30 PM ET): Well, the numbers still aren't great, but Mindy perked up a little this week, drawing in 3.2 million viewers and a 1.7 in its demo. Hey, at least it's not Ben and Kate, right?
Vegas (CBS, Tuesdays at 10 PM ET): CBS already placed its bet and rolled the dice on this one, but Vegasdropped to a new low this week — 10.4 million and a 1.6 in the demo. In CBS land, that's pretty crappy. Elementary (CBS, Thursdays at 10 PM ET): Elementary was up a smidge this week, drawing in 10.7 million viewers and a 2.3 in its demo.
Arrow (The CW, Wednesdays at 8 PM ET): Oliver Queen can do no wrong. Well, with ratings anyway. He screws up a lot on the show. But Arrowbrought in 3.8 million viewers and a 1.2 in its demo, so CW has a lot to celebrate. Chicago Fire (NBC, Wednesdays at 10 PM ET): The guys with no shirts drew in 5.7 million viewers and a 1.6 in its demo, which is actually a steep 27 percent drop from last week. Are you feeling the Season 2 pickup heat yet, boys?
The Neighbors (ABC, Wednesdays at 8:30 PM ET): They're still not getting anything close to Modern Family's numbers, but apparently 6.82 million viewers and a 1.9 in its demo is enough to merit a full-season order.
Beauty and the Beast (The CW, Thursdays at 9 PM ET): The beauty and her "beast" (underwear model with a scar on his face) dropped a tenth this week, bringing in 1.6 million viewers and a 0.6 in its demo. Are people finally beginning to realize that it isn't good?
Nashville (ABC, Wednesdays at 10 PM ET): Yee-haw! We're pleased as puddin' that ABC gave Nashville a full-season order. The show pulled in roughly 5.9 million viewers and a 1.8 in its demo this week — less than the "cancelled" dramas Last Resort and 666 Park, but critical success, a lower production cost, and impending album sales are enough to satisfy ABC at the moment.
Guys With Kids (NBC, Wednesdays at 8:30 PM ET): NBC thought that GWK's ratings would surge with the return of Whitney, while we thought it would get cancelled. We were both wrong. The show dropped again to 3.8 million viewers and a 1.3 in its demo, but NBC still ordered four more episodes.
Kellan Lutz' Future Career
Translation: Poised for Cancellation
The Mob Doctor (Fox, Mondays at 8 PM ET): 3.4 million and a 1.0 in its demo. Just let it die, already.
Emily Owens, M.D. (The CW, Tuesdays at 9 PM ET): The hot mess Emily Owens had a slightly better week on Tuesday — bringing in 1.4 million and a 0.4 in its demo — but that's still nothing to write home about. We're worried about this one, guys.
666 Park Avenue: (ABC, Sundays at 10 PM ET): Oh Terry and Vanessa, we're sad to see you go! After averaging only 6.7 million viewers and a 2.4 in its demo, ABC was forced to evict the haunted residents of The Drake. They'll run the remaining episodes, but they haven't picked up the back nine — which means it's not officially cancelled, but will be very soon.
Last Resort (ABC, Thursdays at 8 PM): ABC decided the fates of all of its freshman dramas this week, and while we weren't surprised to see 666 Park go, we thought they might show more faith in this one. We thought wrong. 9.2 million viewers and a 3.2 in the demo wasn't enough to justify keeping this ship afloat. Like with 666 Park, ABC will run the remaining episodes, but they haven't picked up the back nine.
Made In Jersey (CBS, Fridays at 9 PM ET): Huh? Apparently, they're airing the remaining episodes on Saturday beginning Nov. 24, but we wouldn't count on seeing much more from this dud.
Jackson Rathbone's Future Career
Translation: Canceled
Animal Practice (NBC, Wednesdays at 8 PM ET): The good news is, we've received confirmation that Crystal the Monkey WILL return to Community as Annie's Boobs.
Partners (CBS, Mondays at 8:30 PM ET): 6.5 million viewers on average would make some networks jump for joy, but it wasn't enough for CBS' Monday night comedy juggernaut. Canceled. How's your favorite show doing? Will you miss the wacky gang from Partners, or are you glad to see them go? Do you think 666 Park or Last Resort has a fighting chance? Sound off in the comments! It's that time of year to let the traditions start rolling on out. And while Katie Holmes is an A-List celebrity, she still hasn't lost touch with her Ohio roots, especially when it comes to the holiday season and Thanksgiving. Holmes visited Jimmy Fallon Thursday night and revealed to him that she is actually going back home to Ohio to spend Thanksgiving with her family. But besides eating a big feast, Holmes also admitted that she will be partaking in her father's annual tradition, a three-mile run that he calls the "Turkey Trot." Exactly what you want to do after you eat a huge meal.
Here's what you missed last night on late night TV:
Late Night With Jimmy Fallon
Katie Holmes revealed that she will be traveling to Ohio to spend Thanksgiving with her family. She will, of course, be participating in her family's holiday tradition. "Many years ago, my dad started this tradition where we all do this run in the local park," she said. "It's a three mile run called the 'Turkey Trot.' There's even a prize, which I haven't won yet. But it's really fun." She also shared her feelings on a possible Dawson's Creek reunion. "I love everyone from the show," she said. "We have kind of talked about it here and there, but we're like, 'What do you do?' Because [in] our last episode, Michelle's character passed away. Our last episode, we were already like five years older, so. But maybe we'll go on vacation. That would be fun, and just film it."
Part 1
Part 2
Jimmy Kimmel LIVE!
Mel Brooks talked about hanging out with his buddy Carl Reiner. "I see him almost every night," he said. "I love that guy." And during a recent conversation with Reiner (who is 90 years old), Brooks asked a personal question. "Every once in a while, do you ever achieve an erection? Do you ever get an erection?" Brooks asked. "Carl said, 'I do. I do. Not so [they] notice it.'" Yeah, no.

Late Show With David Letterman
Letterman told Zooey Deschanel that she looks like Katy Perry. Apparently, Deschanel has gotten this a lot. "Everybody kept saying, 'This girl looks so much like you," she said. "Then I met her. I was like, 'Thank god she's attractive.'"
Conan
Conan O'Brien beat Kellan Lutz in an arm wrestling match, but only by cheating and using two hands. Lutz also admitted that he wishes he could wear his baby clothes again. How about Lutz just wears no clothes at all? That seems like the better option.

Before we get started, I have to put it all on the table: I'm not the biggest Twi-hard. I've never read the books, so when it came time for Breaking Dawn - Part 2's buzzworthy surprise ending, I was very happily surprised. However, given the intensity of Stephenie Meyer's fan base, I'm sure that many will not agree with me. So, Twi-fans, riddle me this — what did you think of the ending?
[SPOILERS AHEAD]
In case you're suffering from a major Twi-hangover, here's how it all went down: The Cullen and Volturi armies met on the field, and Aro was able to get his peek at Renesmee. He saw that she wasn't a deadly immortal child, so he instantly had the tattletale Irina (Maggie Grace) beheaded. So, of course, the Denali clan went ballistic. But their anger was quelled by the peaceful Cullens, until Aro and the Volturi insisted on starting a battle anyway — even though Renesmee wasn't a threat now, they couldn't be sure that she wouldn't eventually become dangerous. So Aro and Carlisle jumped and met in the air, and when the two vamps reached the ground, Carlisle was missing a head. I lost it.
This led to an epic battle that put the Hogwarts showdown to shame, in which Jasper, numerous vamps and wolves, and eventually Aro lost their lives. It was bloody, emotional, and pretty fantastic. But then, suddenly, after Aro was put down, we flashed back to the moment minutes before where Alice met Aro on the field. The whole battle was a vision of the future that would happen if he didn't go away in peace, and everyone we liked (well, except for Irina) was still alive. Phew. The Volturi left, and everyone lived happily ever after.
Now, I'm a huge fan of Game of Thrones and pessimism and the like, so I wouldn't have minded a bit more bloodshed in my Twilight. But I know that's not the point of this epic romance, so most will probably disagree with me. Still, let's leave it to the polls — vote in ours below, and defend your choice in the comments!

With the end of The Twilight Saga comes the subsequent end of so much more than just the films (including the gratuitous, albeit increasingly creative methods to make Taylor Lautner take his shirt off). But it's the end of the Twilight soundtracks, those multi-platinum albums loved and respected by Twihards and Twihardlys alike, that may leave the biggest void. On Tuesday, November 13 the soundtrack for Breaking Dawn — Part 2 was released, featuring an eclectic array of artists like Green Day, St. Vincent, Passion Pit, Feist, and Twilight's own Nikki Reed.
It's that very M.O. — combining an unlikely group of bands and musicians, both from the Twilight world and beyond — and creating an unexpected, yet pitch-perfect compilation soundtracks that pleases fans of the series and fans of just plain great music.
The first Twilight soundtrack, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 back in November of 2008, and spent an astonishing 224 weeks on the charts and moved more than 3.5 million copies worldwide. In addition to commercial success, the album was loved by critics (Entertainment Weekly gave it an A-) and even earned Grammy nominations.
Since then, the four soundtracks to follow: New Moon, Eclipse, and both Breaking Dawns, have all followed suit and been chart-topping, must-have records. Many of the artists featured on the Twilight soundtracks were bona fide hit-makers and music superstars long before they contributed their exclusive tracks to the albums (including Muse, Linkin Park, Florence and the Machine, Radiohead's Thom Yorke, Cee Lo Green, The Killers, Bruno Mars, and The Black Keys), just as many up-and-coming indie artists were given a major platform to share their music with the masses.
So what's it like being part of the pop culture phenomenon and becoming a "Twilight band" alongside the likes of Muse and Death Cab For Cutie? Hollywood.com caught up with two of the bands featured on the Twilight soundtracks, how they got involved, the impact it has made on their careers, and the reception they're received since.
Melissa Dougherty, the lead guitarist of rock band Eastern Conference Champions, whose original song "A Million Miles An Hour" was featured on the Eclipse soundtrack, put it simply: "Being on the soundtrack definitely opened up a lot of doors for our band ... We saw it as a great opportunity to grow the band on a global level." While the band had already gained notoriety for appearing on shows like Friday Night Lights and Gossip Girl, the bass-heavy "A Million Miles An Hour" track clicked with the Twilight fan base. "The Twihards are a very loyal and supportive community, and they definitely embraced our band wholeheartedly, which we truly appreciate," Dougherty says
It probably didn't hurt that ECC's song started the first moment Lautner's Jacob appeared on screen in Eclipse. Dougherty recalled, "We didn’t know which scene the song was for ... We went to the premiere and heard the bass line start, but the audience went crazy screaming for Taylor Lautner, so we kind of missed hearing it." Of course, as much as a thrill the song provided for fans ("People always want to hear that tune as well, and it’s become a fun one to play," she says), being welcomed aboard the Twilight soundtrack lineage was just as much a thrill for the band back when they submitted their music for consideration.
"We’re very proud to have had our song picked out of 400 other artists. It’s a big honor and a big opportunity for an unsigned band to get. At the time we, had no label, no manager and no lawyer," Dougherty recalls, adding, "It was definitely one for the underdogs."
Like ECC, the eclectic Southern indie rock outfit The Features were approached to submit a song through their publishing company. If it hadn't been for the Breaking Dawn - Part 1 soundtrack, their track "From Now On" may have never heard the light of day. Singer/guitarist Matt Pelham recalls, "We were, at that time, in the studio finishing up a record, and had a few songs that were left over from the record. And we figured it couldn't hurt, so we submitted a couple of the songs we had left over. 'From Now On' was one of those, and it wound up on the soundtrack."
"From Now On", one of the more upbeat songs in the Twilight soundtrack catalog, plays during Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Bella's (Kristen Stewart) honeymoon sequence. While Pelham acknowledges that their appearance on the soundtrack has brought in some younger fans and a spike in YouTube awareness ("At one point the YouTube video that someone had posted had surpassed a million hits, which if you take every other YouTube video we have and combine them, it doesn't even come close to that") he and the band had their initial trepidations about appearing on the soundtrack.
"At first, when they asked, we thought it might be kinda weird," Pelham admits, "We didn't know how we'd fit into that soundtrack." Still, Pelham — who says he admires the "mix tape" approach of albums ("I really enjoy records that kind of move around and surprise you") — and the band were happy with how things turned out in the end. "I'm really glad we were part of it ... The music supervisor did a really good job of placing the music and with the music they chose. It comforted the band to know it wasn't just find the catchiest stuff and stick it in there."
That music supervisor is none other than Alexandra Patsavas, the woman worked on all five of the Twilight soundtracks and also put her magical musical touch on the likes of Grey's Anatomy, Mad Men, The O.C., and more recently, The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Pastavas, who says she's "always been interested in independent music," cites the combination of artists like ECC and The Features with "some of the most important alternative and indie rock bands" as "one of the most rewarding and interesting parts of the Twilight saga soundtracks."
In addition to using a variety of bands for the soundtracks, Pastavas, who worked closely with Stephenie Meyer and the various directors throughout the creation of the Twilight soundtracks ("It is a very analog process for this very sophisticated digital era we live in ... It's a collaborative effort in the artistic process,"), also credits the use of original, exclusive music for why these albums struck such a chord. "It was a special thing and something the fans really, really appreciated being able to forever associate the songs and bands with their favorite scenes in the film."
Pastavas, who says she received over 500 submissions for each album, perhaps summed the success of each of the wide-ranging soundtracks best: "Every single one has told a different story." Yet another reason we're sad to close the Twilight chapter.

It's time to call it a wrap. The final Twilight movie, The Twilight Saga — Breaking Dawn - Part 2 drops in theaters Nov. 16, and that's it. After this, there will be no more Bella and Edward drama. No more werewolf-vampire battles. Not more bed-breaking vampire sex scenes. And for the actors, no more bonding on set. Hollywood.com catches up with Chaske Spencer, who plays werewolf Sam Uley, and he shares with us what it's like to see the franchise's days coming to a close.
Spencer is going to miss hanging out with his werewolf brothers on set. "It was always good to hang out with them," he says. "We've been together since New Moon, so it was a little sad that it's gone." But Spencer will stay friends with his cast mates. "I'll always keep in contact with them," he says.
And Spencer will always have memories from being on set to keep close to his heart, especially the last day of shooting. "We'd been up all night," Spencer recalls. "It was the wedding scene, [and] we shot all night." This was the first time Spencer ever attempted a night shoot. "At the end, I was really tired," he shares. "I remember they had us put off somewhere in the Cullens' house, and we were all trying to get some sleep between takes, but it's a long process."
While the last day of shooting was tough on Spencer, there were also easier times that he remembers. And there's one specific scene that Spencer feels will draw fans in one last time. "I really enjoy the scene [where] Jacob and Sam unite and want to do battle with the vampires," he teases.
It's these vampires, the Volturi, that pose the biggest threat to Spencer and his wolf pack. "I would say the element of their strength [is the Volturis' biggest threat]," he says. "I don't think Sam's every really encountered those type of vampires. That's something that the character is going to have to keep on his paws [for]."
But at least Spencer was in shape and physically prepared for battle. "I was in a hotel with a gym," he says. "There was also a gym in Squamish that we went to. We were in the gym a lot. [And] I'd do heavy lifting for like an hour."

If there's a cinematic alchemy award to be given this year director Bill Condon deserves to take it home after magically turning the tedious Twilight franchise into entertainment gold. 2011's Part 1 was a horror camp romp that turned the supernatural love triangle — the naval gazing trio of Bella Edward and Jacob — on its head. Breaking Dawn - Part 2 continues the madcap exploration of a world populated by vampires and werewolves mining even more comedy thrills and genuine character moments out of conceit than ever before. The film occasionally sidesteps back into Edward and Bella's meandering romance (an evident hurdle of author Stephenie Meyer's source material) but the duller moments are overshadowed by the movie's nimble pace and playful attitude. Breaking Dawn - Part 2 will elicit laughs aplenty — but thankfully they're all on purpose.
Part 2 picks up immediately following the events of the first film Bella (Kristen Stewart) having been turned into a vampire by Edward (Robert Pattinson) to save her life after the torturous delivery of her half-human half-vampire child Renesmee. She awakes to discover super senses heightened agility increased strength… and a thirst for blood. One dead cougar later Bella and the gang are able to focus on the real troubles ahead: Renesmee is rapidly growing (think Jack) and vampiric overlords The Volturi perceive her a threat to vampiric secrecy. Knowing the Volturi will travel to Forks WA to kill the young girl (a 10-year-old just a month after being born) The Cullens amass an army of bloodsucking friends to end the oppression once and for all.
Packed with an absurd amount of backstory and mythology-twisting plot points (some vampires can shoot lightning now?) Condon and series screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg mine revel in the beefed up ensemble of Breaking Dawn - Part 2 and thanks to a wildly funny cast it never feels like pointless deviation. Along with the usual suspects Lee Pace adds swagger to the series as a grungy alt-rock vampire Noel Fisher appears as a hilarious over-the-top battle-ready Russian coven member and Michael Sheen returns has Volturi head honcho Aro and steels the show. Flamboyant diabolical and a steady stream of maniacal laughter Sheen owns Condon's high camp vision for Twilight and he lights up the screen. There are a few throw away nations of vampires — the oddly stereotypical Egyptian and Amazonians sects are there mostly there to off-set the extreme whiteness — but the actors involved bring liveliness to a franchise known for being soulless. Even Stewart Pattinson and Taylor Lautner give personal bests in this installment — a scene between Bella and her dad Charlie (Billy Burke) is genuinely heartfelt while Jacob's overprotective hero schtick finally lands.
Whereas Breaking Dawn - Part 1 stuck mostly to the personal story relying on the intimate moments as Bella and Edward took the big plunge into marriage and sex Part 2 paints with broader strokes and Condon has a ball. Delving into the history of the vampires and the vampire world outside Forks is Pandora's Box for the director. One scene where we learn why kids scare the heck of the Volturi captures a scope of medieval epics — along with the bloodshed. Twilight might be known for its sexual moments but Breaking Dawn - Part 2 will go down for its abundance of decapitations. The big set piece in the finale is something to behold both in the craftsmanship of the spectacle and in its bizarre nature.
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 had the audience hooting hollering and even gasping as it twisted and turned to the final moments. There's little doubt that even the biggest naysayer of the franchise would do the same. No irony here: the conclusion of Twilight is a blast.
-
Anyone who knows anything about Twilight knows that Jacob's (Taylor Lautner) plot line gets weird in Breaking Dawn. So weird, in fact, that it should probably be made illegal, if it isn't already. At the end of Breaking Dawn - Part 1, Jacob "imprinted" on Bella and Edward's newborn daughter Renesmee, effectively meaning that the pair would be bonded for life — in more ways than one, if you get our drift. So when Hollywood.com sat down with Lautner earlier this month, we had to ask — what did he think when he first heard he'd have to play lovestruck over a little girl?
Lautner graciously answered all of our imprinting questions, and also shed some light on the, ahem, "Magic Mike moment" he shares in the film with Charlie Swan (Billy Burke). We're going to leave it at that, because the scene is that good. Fans of abs, rejoice!

Kristen Stewart obsessed with herself? Maybe just a little. Stewart stopped by to visit Conan O'Brien last night, and when he asked her what it was like filming sex scenes for The Twilight Saga, she had quite a bit to say on the subject. In fact, she confessed that she likes to look at herself making 'schmexy faces.' Yes, she did go that far. And she didn't stop there...
Here's what you missed last night on late night TV:
Late Night With Jimmy Fallon
Fallon shared a clip of Kellan Lutz arm wrestling Kristen Stewart in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn—Part 2.

Part 2
Jimmy Kimmel LIVE!
Comedian Martin Short admitted to loving Honey Boo Boo. "The difference between her family and the Palins is teeth and that's it," he said. He also attempted to feel up his "ding dong," as he puts it, in front of Kimmel while talking about discovering a lump in the area as a kid. He explained how he tried to cure the cyst himself. "I went to the medicine cabinet, and I got a bottle of this thing called Dettol," he said. "Dettol, I would later find out they would use a cap for a gallon of water to clean hospital floors. I didn't know, so I just poured it on there. By day three there was a rash." That sounds painful, to say the least.

Late Show With David Letterman
Alec Baldwin talked about doing voice over work for his character, North, in Rise of the Guardians. "It's like radio acting," he described. "You're there in the booth with the microphone, and the director is saying to you, 'Alright Alec, you're Santa Claus... You're tired. You're fat. You've been eating cookies. Mrs. Claus doesn't understand why you work so hard. We would like you to put all of that inside the line itself.' That's voiceover acting in a nutshell."
The Tonight Show With Jay Leno
Helen Hunt stopped by Leno to promote her new movie, The Sessions. She admitted that she doesn't read reviews because she's fearful that they might be emotionally disturbing. She also said that she wasn't allowed to go into a party at Sundance. She also didn't try to get in because she knew the bouncer didn't know who she was. How could you NOT know who Helen Hunt is?!?
Conan
Conan O'Brien asked Kristen Stewart what it was like filming Twilight sex scenes when Stewart had to look "into the eyes of the camera." "It's nice to see your own reflection while you're making schmexy faces," she said. "It's absolutely absurd, actually. I want to shoot myself." Stewart also dissed her father claiming that he loves all the attention she has received since starring in the Twilight franchise. "He loves it," she said. "He's a total fame whore. You go anywhere, even if I'm not with him, he's like, 'Hey I'm John... Stewart... Father of Kristen. Have you ever seen Twilight? Yeah, that's my kid.' It's the most embarrassing thing in the world."
