While we know that Jim Carrey can kill it in dramatic roles (see: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), the man made his name as one of the greatest physical comedians of our time (see: The Mask). So I was thrilled to hear that Carrey is going to be exercising his peculiar comedic sensibilities once again with direction from one Larry Charles, director extraordinaire of Borat, Bruno, and several of the better episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm and Entourage, for which he also wrote.
Carrey will headline Pierre Pierre as a "self-indulgent, lazy, French nihilist who is transporting a stolen Mona Lisa from Paris to London," who along the way "comes to love his home country again."
In 2008, the movie's screenplay ranked 11th on Hollywood's famed 'Black List', which ranks scripts based on an annual poll of around 150 development executives and other high-level assistants. Fox Searchlight paid around a million dollars upfront for the screenplay, from newcomers Edwin Cannistraci and Frederick Setoff.
Jason Reitman (Juno, Up in the Air) was originally attached to direct, but the project fell to Charles when Reitman dropped out. Now, Escape Artists' Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch, as well as Category 5's Brian Sher, are producing the flick with a planned $20 million budget.
It sounds like a winning combination of talents to me. Carrey is just the kind of comedic actor to make this movie work: his ability to take an otherwise ordinary scene and make it somehow iconic (see video below!) puts him in a class all by himself. Well, except perhaps Sacha Baron Cohen, whom Larry Charles last worked with on Borat and Bruno. Hopefully the director will find a way to build Pierre Pierre around Carrey's strengths the same way he did for Cohen.

Joining her on the reality TV show, hosted by celebrity counsellor Dr. Drew Pinsky, will be Jeremy London, Jason Wahler and former teen idol Leif Garrett.
Actor London recently hit the news when he reported he'd been kidnapped and forced to buy drugs and alcohol for a gang of youths in Palm Desert, California; reality TV bad boy Wahler was arrested and booked for misdemeanour battery in June (10) after allegedly assaulting a woman at a party in Hollywood, California, and Garrett faces jail time after he was arrested on suspicion of possession of heroin in February (10).
The troubled stars fighting their drink and drugs demons at the Pasadena Recovery Center, where Celebrity Rehab is filmed, will be joined by fashion icon Janice Dickinson and oil heir Jason Davis, among others.
It is not known whether previously announced rehab-mates Bonnie Pointer, Tila Tequila and rapper Bizzy Bone will be part of the new show.
Producers initially feared they would have to scrap the season after failing to net enough star names. They reportedly offered Lindsay Lohan and Liza Minnelli big deals to appear on the show. Both stars turned them down.

Fresh out of "kidnapper" Brandon Adams's basement, where he was held captive and forced to smoke weed and drink alcohol, Party of Five star Jeremy London is set to appear in the fourth season of Dr. Drew Pinsky's VH1 series, Celebrity Rehab. He will check into Pasadena Recovery center shortly, where he'll stay for three weeks and film 8 hour-long episodes that will air before the end of the year. Joining him will be supermodel Janice Dickinson, Jason Wahler of The Hills, Leif Garrett (who's from something I'm too young to know about) and Frankie Lons, who's Keyshia Cole's mother. Oh, and also...Tiger Woods's mistress, Rachel Uchitel. So as you can see, Lindsay Lohan is still going to jail. Oh, and also, Brandon Davis will be joining them. You'll remember him as the person who coined the ever-endearing term, "fire-crotch." What a group, am I right?
Of all of them, Jeremy London's reason for participating in the show is strange. He's been struggling to stay sober for several years, has an estranged wife, and a kid he'd probably like to see more than he does. Why would he elect to participate in the shenanigans that is Dr. Drew Pinsky? Why would any of them, for that matter? They're all after fame, especially Brandon Davis, Jason Wahler, Rachel Uchitel, Janice Dickinson. As for Leif Garret, the poor guy's probably just looking for something to do. Frankie Lons, as far as I'm concerned, is the rando teddy bear you pull out of a vending machine full of pink rabbits. But London should be taking the more serious route and doing rehab privately. He probably wants to prove that he was, in fact, kidnapped and bullied into smoking a doobie and drinking a beer, even though he's got the body and strength of a mover and the smile of a dentist. If anything, we'll get to learn more about this incident on the show, and how we can protect ourselves when our kidnapper wants to reward us for good behavior by smoking us up.

The Party of Five star hit the headlines in June (10) after claiming he was taken hostage by a group of men in California and forced at gunpoint to "purchase alcohol and use illicit drugs" while driving them around Palm Springs.
His twin brother Jason, and his mother, Debbie Nielsen, spoke out about their fear for London's mental state, and insisted that the "story of the kidnapping just doesn't add up".
Their comments prompted London to request a restraining order against his relatives to stop them from talking publicly about the issue, but it was rejected by a California judge earlier this month (Jul10) on the grounds of freedom of speech.
Now Jason London has urged the star not to appear in the reality rehab show following rumours he has agreed a fee of $40,000 (£26,000) for the next season.
Jason tells TMZ.com, "Of course it is my wish that my brother gets the help that he needs. I truly wish that his motivations for doing this show were to actually admit that he has a problem, take the help, and get his life back.
"Unfortunately, it does not appear that his motivations are such, and it's going to be a public forum instead of a private intensified rehabilitation. This concerns me. All I can do is hope."

The former Party of Five star claims he was taken hostage by a group of men in California after they offered to help him change a tyre on his car.
He insists he was held at gunpoint and forced to drive the men around Palm Springs, while the recovering addict also alleges he was forced to "purchase alcohol and use illicit drugs".
Police have so far arrested one suspect, 26-year-old Brandon Adams, in connection with the incident, and he has been charged with kidnapping, robbery, possession of stolen property, vehicle theft and carjacking.
But London, 37, is struggling to overcome the turmoil and is kept awake each night recounting the scary events.
He tells People magazine, "I sleep less than one hour a night. Every time I try to close my eyes, all this stuff in my head starts back up."
London's claims have been publicly doubted by his twin brother Jason and his mother Debbie Nielsen, who are convinced he is back on drugs and insist he is in need of "serious psychological help".
The troubled star admits even he would struggle to believe his kidnap tale if he didn't live through the terror himself, but London is determined not to let his family's attitude get him down for the sake of his young son, Lyrik.
He says, "(The kidnapping story is) outrageous. If I heard somebody saying this, I would probably doubt it as well.
"(But) I feel like God is testing me to make sure I stay strong for my son. I'm not going to let this destroy me."
Last Thursday (01Jul10), London lost his request for a restraining order to stop his brother and mum speaking out after a judge rejected the motion on the grounds of freedom of speech.

Brandon Adams, 26, has since been charged with kidnapping, robbery, possession of stolen property, vehicle theft and carjacking.
But London's twin brother, Jason, has ignored a cease and desist warning from the actor by voicing his fears the actor is in need of "serious psychological help" following the supposed ordeal.
Jason recently told People.com, "We would never do anything to hurt him. But the story of the kidnapping just doesn't add up. None of it makes any sense.
"We feel he (Jeremy) needs serious psychological help and drug treatment as soon as possible. Jeremy's behaviour right now is indicative of whenever he's back on drugs. The fact that he's lashing out against his own family and has shut us out is just one more sign of how sick he really is."
But London's attempt to silence Jason and their mother, Debbie Nielsen, was rejected by a California judge on Thursday (01Jul10) on the grounds of freedom of speech.
Nielsen's attorney, Tamar Arminak, argued London's mother was entitled to speak her mind under the U.S. Constitution's First Amendment - and the judge agreed.

London's mother, Debbie Nielsen, and his brother Jason, have spoken publicly about the star's drug battle in light of the kidnapping tale, prompting the actor's lawyers to fire off cease and desist letters to silence them, fearing any comments made could ruin a potential court case.
But Jason London is refusing to keep quiet and has poured doubt on the actor and his girlfriend Melissa's accounts of the incident.
He tells People.com, "We love Jeremy, we only have his best interests at heart. It's absolutely false that we're telling lies about Jeremy. We would never do anything to hurt him. But Jeremy and Melissa's story of the kidnapping just doesn't add up. None of it makes any sense. Mainly, why didn't Melissa call the police if Jeremy went missing with these strange men until 2am?
"We feel he needs serious psychological help and drug treatment as soon as possible. Jeremy's behaviour right now is indicative of whenever he's back on drugs. The fact that he's lashing out against his own family and has shut us out is just one more sign of how sick he really is."
And Jason fears his brother's alleged habit will spiral out of control if he doesn't get help now: "For years we've been worried sick about getting a phone call telling us that Jeremy's been found dead. For months, Jeremy has cut off his whole family and he refuses to talk to us. We're desperate for anyone to get him help and that's why we're speaking out."

The actress paid her respects to the designer, who committed suicide in February (10), at the London premiere of Sex and the City 2 last month (May10) by wearing one of his creations.
And she marked her friendship with McQueen further at the glitzy event on Monday by arriving in another stunning frock from his collection and taking the stage to present McQueen's Special Tribute Award.
The Sex and the City actress addressed a star-studded crowd including Jessica Biel, Dakota Fanning, Brooke Shields, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, and Rachel Weisz, saying, "There's no question his breathtaking work will endure, but I would've loved to see what he would've done next."
Following Parker's speech, a number of sombre models strutted the catwalk showing off McQueen's final fashion collection.
Other winners at the event included David Bowie's wife Iman, who picked up the fashion icon trophy. After being handed the award, she jokingly told Bowie, "Move over, you're not the only icon in the house."
Weisz was on hand to present Jason Wu with the Swarovski award for his womenswear collection, and Gwyneth Paltrow escorted Michael Kors in one of his dresses as he was given the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
