Holdover hits prevailed this weekend as moviegoers showed little enthusiasm for new arrivals. Universal's PG-13-rated comedy "Meet the Parents" held on to first place in its second weekend with a still engaging estimated $21.35 million (-25%) at 2,615 theaters (+1 theater; $8,165 per theater). Johnny Depp, Willem Dafoe and Mickey Rourke will join Antonio Banderas in the third installment of director Robert Rodriguez's trilogy loosely based on Sergio Leone's spaghetti westerns. Once Upon a Time in Mexico: Desperado 2 will begin shooting in Mexico this week, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The trilogy began with El Mariachi in 1992 and followed with Desperado three years later. Desperado, which starred Banderas, Quentin Tarantino and Selma Hayek, grossed $25 million domestically.

Director Robert Rodriguez and his favorite leading man Antonio Banderas, both hot off the hit film Spy Kids, will reteam for Once Upon a Time in Mexico for Dimension Films.
