The Los Angeles Film Critics Association on Wednesday named the quirky dramedy American Splendor best picture of 2003, and The Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson was voted best director.

New Line Cinema's The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, the third and final installment in director Peter Jackson's fantasy epic trilogy, leads the nominations in the 2003 Online Film Critics Society awards with 11, including best picture, director and supporting actor for Sean Astin and Andy Serkis.
