You've got mere minutes to ask the right questions that will shed light on their feelings about what it's like to be nominated for an Oscar. Tom Cruise But here's the problem: You're corralled into a roomful of other reporters, who all want to ask the same questions. And some of their voices are louder than yours. LAS VEGAS, March 5, 2000 -- A city of pure illusion, a destination of promised opportunities, a dustbin of broken dreams. ... It's certainly not hard to see the cosmic affinity between Las Vegas and Hollywood. And starting Monday, these two mirage factories shall converse and converge in what is known as ShoWest -- a four-day theater exhibitors convention by design and a star-studded industry event distilled to its purest form (read: a marathon of power luncheons and dinners) in essence. And when

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Feb. 21, 2000 -- Jennifer Love Hewitt joins the adult race today, reaching the ripe-old, legal-drinking age of 21. Hewitt will, presumably, display some very adult-like maturity in the forthcoming ABC biopic "The Audrey Hepburn Story," in which she portrays the late actress-turned-humanitarian, a role that departs from Hewitt's usual angst-ridden (and stalker-pursued) TV and film roles. The real Audrey Hepburn, by the way, was 25 when "Sabrina" was released, 28 when "Funny

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Feb. 16, 2000 -- Where were you at 5:30 a.m. PST on Tuesday? If you're an Academy Award nominee, you were hounded by media anxious to get a first-hand reaction. Michael Clarke Duncan and Haley Joel Osment had camera crews sitting with them to watch the nominations. While the 11-year-old "Sixth Sense" star, the third youngest Best Supporting Actor nominee ever, gave his gentlemanly "it's an honor to be nominated" sound bite, "The Green Mile's" Duncan, 42, whooped, hollered a

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Feb. 10, 2000 -- Agent Clarice Starling could be back on the case in the big-screen version of "Hannibal." After Jodie Foster dropped out to direct "Flora Plum," the project looked to be filed away -- or at least returned to producer Dino DeLaurentiis. Now it appears that "Magnolia" star Julianne Moore could be ready for her FBI badge and power suit. Daily Variety reports that the busy actress (she appeared in five movies in 1999) is in strong contention for active duty. A
