Star power, sex and violence are not alluring enough to make up for storytelling that fails to engage. Lonely Hearts is based on a true story, but in the end, it just leaves us pining for a better story.

X-Men: The Last Stand falls somewhere between the plodding exposition of the first X-Men and the compelling, character-driven X2. In other words, its action-packed but lacks that certain mutant angst.

The parents of the Big Chill are out of town and their twenty-something inertia-filled children decide to throw a house party. Sadly, add one more to the ashes of St. Elmo's Fire--Standing Still has nothing that will surprise and/or shock fans of this genre.

With the current field of horror remakes already grossly overpopulated, The Hills Have Eyes doesn’t offer enough to distance itself from its compadres, despite gore and scares that will keep the popcorn flowing. In other words: box office gold.

Although ultimately affecting with a fine ensemble cast, Sigourney Weaver and co. are not heroic enough to rescue Imaginary Heroes from the pits of melodramatic mediocrity; it might have been better suited as an after-school special.

As a thriller, Spartan will hold your attention, but unfortunately writer/director's David Mamet's style doesn't fit well in this milieu.
