The Guardian wants more than anything to be a summer blockbuster. But as a fall movie in earnest--clocking in at well over two hours, no less--the movie is stripped bare and revealed as a middling action flick without much action.
Although it might be unnecessarily complex in parts, Constantine still delivers a supernatural wallop, fueling a never-ending fascination with what lies beyond our world.
The Core doesn't rise above schlocky predecessors such as Deep Impact and Armageddon. The film's formulaic script is too predictable and the special effects are unimpressive.
