  • Dr. Laura's Talk Show Blues

HOLLYWOOD, Oct. 4, 2000 -- If you think the business of talk shows is easy, just take a look at Dr. Laura Schlessinger.

Plagued by protests, bad publicity and weak showings since its inception, the titular radio personality's eponymous TV talk show "Dr. Laura" has once again come under fire.

The New York Post says that the talk show host has been reportedly planting fake guests on her show. One such mole, the tab says, was allegedly Dr. L's researcher who had appeared on the show twice (and two days in a row, no less) but as different people.

The Post was apparently tipped off by someone from the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation who watched the two shows and saw through the disguise.

Paramount, the show's producers, has remained quiet on the accusations.

  • Bochco feels blue about drama series

HOLLYWOOD, March 15, 2001 -- Producer Steven Bochco, co-creator of the series NYPD Blue, is suing Twentieth Century Fox, alleging that the TV rights for the show were sold to Fox cable network F/X for a fee substantially below fair-market value.

The case is headed for trial April 9 after a judge denied the studio's motion for summary judgment Wednesday.

Bochco claims that the series was sold for $400,000 an episode when its real value was at least $700,000. He maintains that with 200 episodes, damages add up to $60 million, Reuters reports.

Both companies are part of Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. media empire. If the case makes it to trial, it will be the first to charge that integrated entertainment companies are selling to each other at below-market prices.

Over the past few months, the court has dismissed Bochco's claims of fraud by Fox, but yesterday's ru

  • Bocho blasts "Blue" move as criminal

NYPD Blue creator Steven Bochco, to TV Guide, about why ABC made the wrong decision in moving the cop show next season from Tuesdays to Wednesdays against Law & Order:

  • "NYPD Blue" means following orders

Actor Rick Schroder, who last month announced he was leaving the ABC crime drama NYPD Blue, to The Associated Press on advice he gave to his replacement, actor Mark-Paul Gosselaar:

``Good luck, keep your head low, you have lots to learn, they're smart people and do as you're told.''

  • Gosselaar not Schroder's "Blue" replacement

Mark-Paul Gosselaar, who recently joined the cast of NYPD Blue, rejects rumors that he was brought to the show to replace the departed Rick Schroder.

  • Bochco peeved Over "Blue" move

Steven Bochco, executive producer of ABC's police drama NYPD Blue< /I>, does not agree with the network's decision to shift the series from its current 10 p.m. Tuesdays time slot to 10 p.m. Wednesdays, Variety reports. Boasting that the show will improve its Wednesday night ratings against NBC's highly touted Law & Order, ABC plans to air Bochco's new drama Philly, starring Kim Delaney, in its place. Bochco is concerned that viewers may think he is focusing on his new project at the expense of the hit series and has called the move "enormously dangerous." The network has an option to renew the show for one more season--it just ended its eighth season--but Bochco fears ratings will drop if the show is switched to Wednesdays, weakening the show's chances for renewal.

  • Rick Schroder: Bye, bye "Blue"

--NYPD Blue's Rick Schroder has turned in his badge and gun.

Schroder announced Friday that he's leaving the hit cop series because he wants to spend more time with his family.

"The long hours required to shoot NYPD Blue would prevent me from being where I really want to be at this time--which is with my family," Schroder said in a statement.

  • Love to sing blues

Rock star and actress Courtney Love can certainly break all grounds in music--literally. She is currently recording jazz and blues standards for the soundtrack to her new film, Hello Suckers, Hole's official Web site reports. Having teamed up with friend Roddy Bottum of Imperial Teen, Love has already handpicked several songs and recorded demos for the album. "She's handling the music very well," Bottum says of Love to Rolling Stone magazine. "She's really a great singer. She's got that great, husky voice and it really works for this material," he said. Love and Bottum have also had talks of writing songs for the soundtrack. Currently, Love is shooting 24 Hours in Vancouver and will resume work with her new band, Bastard, in July. She recently suffered a miscarriage during the filming of 24 Hours.

  • Schroder rumored to leave "Blue"

Rick Schroeder, who has played Detective Danny Sorenson on the hit ABC cop drama NYPD Blue for the past 2 ½ years, is rumored to be giving up the job, after returning briefly in the fall, according to USA Today and TV Guide. Reps for Schroeder and series producer Steven Bochco are both denying the rumor. But if it's true, a likely replacement may be Mark-Paul Gosselaar from the former syndie favorite Saved By the Bell.

  • "NYPD Blue" lawsuit amicably resolved, Fox says

How much is NYPD Blue worth? More than 20th Century Fox initially paid, according to television producer Steven Bochco. Bochco and 20th Century Fox settled a 19-month-old legal dispute on Friday, which began when Bochco claimed he was underpaid for reruns of his gritty police drama that air on a Fox-owned cable network, Daily Variety reports.

  • LeAnn Rimes Still Feeling 'Blue'

HOLLYWOOD, June 28, 2000 -- More summer fun for country teen LeAnn Rimes. In addition to her continuing lawsuit battle against her pa, the 17-year-old "Blue" singer has been forced to nix her 30-date concert tour on account of what's described as a strained right vocal cord.

The caravan was scheduled to kick off July 13 in Michigan.

In May, Rimes sued her father (and ex-manager) Wilbur, saying he'd cheated her out of $7 million in earnings.

  • No Blues for Rick Schroder

HOLLYWOOD, June 14, 2000 -- Hooray for ABC. Hooray for Ricky turned Rick Schroder. Word is today that the alphabet network’s cop show "NYPD Blue" has been renewed through 2002, meaning that the Emmy-winning show will remain on the air for a ninth and 10th season.

  • TV STUFF: 'NYPD Blue' Star Turns in Badge

SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 3, 2000 -- Andrea Thompson is a TV star, but what she really wants to be is a local TV news reporter. In Albuquerque. Yes, we know. Not even local TV news reporters in Albuquerque want to be local TV news reporters in Albuquerque.

But don't tell that to Andrea Thompson, who will depart ABC's "NYPD Blue" at the end of this season to move to Albuquerque and become a local news anchor there.

    Really.

As Thompson told the new TV Guide: "I've always been a news junkie."

The actress -- whose age is variously reported as 38 or 40 -- also apparently wants to spend more time with her son. She debuted as Detective Jill Kirkendall on "Blue" in 1996.
