SANTA MONICA, Calif., Feb. 14, 2000 -- So, today's Valentine's Day, and there are many reasons to be bitter. (Being single one great reason to be bitter). So, it didn't help that Blockbuster, that rental behemoth, last week released its Top 10 list of the most romantic films of all-time. Of all-time? Oh, really. Consider: 10. "The Wedding Singer" (1998) 9. "My Best Friend's Wedding" (1997) 8. "The Thomas Crown Affair" (1968) 7. "Jerry Maguire" (1996) 6. "Sleepless in Seattle" (1993) 5. "Chasing Amy" (1997) 4. "Sixteen Candles" (1984) 3. "Breakfast at Tiffany's" (1961) 2. "Pretty Woman" (1990) 1. "As Good As It Gets" (1997) So, OK, claws are out, and it's now open season. How the heck does any movie starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore (Isn't her Gosh-I'm-So-Earnest-Act Old Yet? "Never Been Kissed" should've never been watched.) qualif
HOLLYWOOD, Aug. 25, 2000 – What's up with those late fees at Blockbuster? Well, that’s exactly what some disgruntled video renters want to know. The Hollywood reporter says today that Monica Rocha, a Hollywood, Calif., denizen, has filed a class-action lawsuit Wednesday against Blockbuster for unfairly overcharging their customers on late fees. Here’s how the late-fee system works: In what is known as the "convenience program," the overdue penalty is based on the rental period rather than on a per-day bass. Which means – in a nutshell -- that if a Blockbuster patron checks something out on a 5-day rental period, they’d be charged a 5-day late fee, regardless if the item is only one day late. According to the Reporter, Blockbuster makes more than $203.2 mil in late fees alone during their latest fiscal quarter. Something to think about, when you decide to

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Jan. 9, 2000 - Nobody saw "Nobody." Almost. With an unwhopping $488 take (less than the price of a big-screen TV), the Phaedra Cinema release was 1999's lowest-grossing feature on record through Dec. 30, industry statistics show. The film, a Japanese import, represents the flip side of Hollywood's chest-thumping and box-office boasting. For each blockbuster that pulled in $100 million-plus last year (there were 18 in all), there were at least 20 that grossed less than $2,000. Directed by first-timer Toshimichi Ohkawa, "Nobody" was an action thriller about three friends whose lives changed when a bar fight became something far, far beyond their control. In a review for @NZone Magazine, writer Dustin Putman awarded the film a passing two-and-a-half (out of five) stars, calling it a "tautly filmed and tightly developed" flick that ultimately f
