A survey conducted for NBC indicates that 37 percent of all viewers believe it is appropriate for commercials to air during crisis news coverage and that 46 percent of those between the ages of 18 and 34 believe so, the Wall Street Journal reported today.

HOLLYWOOD, June 13, 2000 -- Andy Griffith is resting at his North Carolina home after enduring quadruple bypass surgery and a reported heart attack, it has been revealed today. The 74-year-old actor of "Matlock" fame (and "Andy Griffith Show" legend) went under the knife May 9 for the bypass procedure, a spokesman for the actor's agent said. According to broadcast reports, a heart attack occurred a few weeks after that. Still, despite all the scares, the Griffith spokesman says the star's prognosis is "excellent," and a complete recovery is expected. Griffith will next be seen in the upcoming Billy Bob Thornton movie "Daddy and Them."

Additionally, today's Sun says the 30-year-old actor has been readmitted to the Los Angeles hospital where he was treated for two weeks for what his publicist said was the flu. A Cedars-Sinai spokesperson was unavailable for comment early this morning. Stateside supermarket tabloids said Perry's stomach troubles stemmed from a crash diet. Now the Sun offers its verdict: Liver failure. The paper -- which contains no quotes or comments from either Perry's camp or doctors -- said the reason for the failure was a "mystery," although it did make a point to dredge up Perry's past addiction to prescription painkillers. SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 24, 2000 -- The 13-year-old son of Pierce Brosnan remained hospitalized in serious but stable condition today after rupturing a bladder, among other injuries, in a suspected drunken-driving crash over the weekend in Malibu, Calif. Sean Brosnan, the 007 actor's youngest child by his late wife Cassandra Harris, was a passenger in a 1982 Chevy Blazer when the sport utility vehicle plunged nearly 200 feet down a mountainside at about 3:45 a.m. PDT on Saturday, authorities said. The driver of the Blazer -- James Hall, a 19-year-old cousin of the younger Brosnan -- was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, the California Highway Patrol said.
