  • Bart Goes to Bear Heaven

HOLLYWOOD, May 18, 2000 -- Hollywood has been deprived of a thespian of the most rarified breed. Bart the Bear ™ -- the 1,500 pound, 9 1/2 feet tall grizzly perhaps best-known for playing its kind in the 1997 survival flick "The Edge" with Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin -- died in Utah on May 10, it has been disclosed. He was 22.

Bart's other big-screen credits include "Legends of the Fall" and "The Bear," in which he played the bear.

Bart the Bear ™ was born in a stateside zoo on Jan. 19, 1978, and went to live with his adopted human family -- Doug and Lynne Seus -- shortly after.

  • Anne Heche Wants to Take Us to Heaven

HOLLYWOOD, Aug. 22, 2000 -- Here's today's pop quiz. Guess which Hollywood star this Fresno-area law enforcement official is talking about:

"She proceeded to tell me that she was God and was going to take everyone back to heaven with her in some sort of spaceship."

In case you haven't heard, Heche, 31, and her celebrity companion of three years, Ellen DeGeneres, ended their highly public romance on Saturday. It was just hours later that Heche apparently parked her Toyota SUV along an isolated stretch of Highway 33, about 40 miles west of Fresno, and walked about a mile along a dirt road until she reached the farmer's door

  • Leguizamo finds heavenly inspiration in Sister Wendy

John Leguizamo, who plays Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec in Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rogue, to W Magazine about receiving inspiration from Sister Wendy, the British nun whose televised lectures on art have become a cult hit:

``I happened to be watching a lot of Sister Wendy right before filming, and I thought, `She has a lisp like he did, and she appreciates art like he did.' So she was my way into the character. And all through the shoot, Baz kept saying, `John, more Sister Wendy! Find her effervescence!''
