HOLLYWOOD, May 18, 2000 -- Can they do this to Jennifer Love Hewitt? Can they deprive a leading Generation Y icon of her weekly network TV outlet? Apparently so. Fox today announced its new fall schedule, and Hewitt's show -- the "Party of Five" spinoff "Time of Your Life" -- wasn't on it. The network won't tell you what that means. We will. She got axed. Oh, the fates they can be cruel. Was it only yesterday -- or perhaps 15 minutes ago -- that the one they call Love was the leading lady of her era? Oh, well. Next! Overall, Fox will introduce a whopping nine new series, including "The Lone Gunmen," an "X-Files" spinoff; a new, untitled drama from Writer Inc. Michael Crichton ("Jurassic Park"); "Boston Public," a new school drama from Producer Inc. David E. Kelley ("Ally McBeal"); and, "The $treet," one of those young-people-today dramas t
HOLLYWOOD, Feb. 20, 2001 - Rumors and controversy are nothing new for Jennifer Lopez. But the 30-year-old acting and singing sensation was finally given the opportunity to address her critics during her promotional tour in Hong Kong on Monday. "I make the kind of music I make, and I sing the way I sing,'' Lopez responded when confronted by reporters about her singing skills. "It's not about the critics for me - it's about the fans,'' Lopez said. "There's always people who say negative things and there's always going to be people who say positive things.'' She also laughed off the allegation that her body is insured for $1 billion. "No, and I know that was a big rumor,'' the sultry star replied. "I actually saved the newspaper to show my kids one day, but it's not true. Sorry,'' she said. "Things tend to be exaggerated a lot," Lopez said about recent media reports
HOLLYWOOD, Nov. 8, 2000 -- Not getting enough of Jennifer Lopez? Well, lucky for you, "The Cell" actress is currently in talks to star in "Enough," Daily Variety reports. The project, which follows a newlywed woman (Lopez) who becomes a victim of domestic violence, is also courting helmer Michael Apted ("The World Is Not Enough") for the director's chair. Meanwhile, Lopez has snatched up the opportunity to play Mexican artist Frida Kahlo in a biopic produced by Francis Ford Coppola. PHONING IN: The Hollywood Reporter says that Aussie export Radha Mitchell ("High Art") will play opposite countryman Colin Farrell ("Tigerland") in the drama "Phone Booth." The film is about a man (Farrell) who's forced to stay in a Manhattan phone booth after being threatened by an assassin. Mitchell will play the man's wife.
HOLLYWOOD, Oct. 12, 2000 -- Are Puff Daddy and Jennifer Lopez over? Well, at least that's what British rock mag Q is saying. Sourcing a U.K. tabloid for the scoop, the music mag said that the breakup was reportedly due to Puffy's "catting around." And the last straw came after Lopez allegedly caught her man talking suggestively to another woman on the phone. Q said that Puffy's New York office has confirmed news of the split. But the funny thing is, when we called this morning, the R&B singer's people denied the report, calling it bogus. Well, that clears that up.
HOLLYWOOD, Oct. 6, 2000 -- The devil's got a new name, and her name is Jennifer Love Hewitt. The Hollywood Reporter says that the "Party of Five" and "I Know What You Did Last Summer" actress will play the titular role of the devil in "The Devil and Daniel Webster," which is said to be a contemporary retelling of the classic tale. The film also stars Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin. In the film, Hewitt's devil will go head to head with Hopkins' character in a battle for the soul of a writer played by Baldwin. The project will begin production Jan. 15. 'SEA' BOUND: "Whatever It Takes" heartthrob James Franco will play the son of Robert De Niro in the thriller "City by the Sea," the Reporter says. The story is about a police officer (De Niro) who discovers that his son is a killer. MO' FRANCO: In other James Franco-as-a-son news today: The Reporter
HOLLYWOOD, Aug. 10, 2000 -- The Queen Bitch speaketh. Ghetto fabulous hip-hop star Lil Kim, aka Queen Bitch (reverentially, of course), disses Jennifer Lopez in the current issue of Mixmag, a publication from the United Kingdom. "I don’t care for her," says Kim, whose sophomore album "The Notorious KIM" was executive produced by Sean Puffy Combs, Lopez’s man. "I’m Puffy’s friend, and I know when good people are around and I know when bad people are around. And that’s basically it." Well, that not all of it. Kim goes on to say that Lopez is a gold digger, but not the money kind. "Being a gold digger doesn’t necessarily mean you’re after money all the time," Kim says. "Something can be valuable to you just a like a pot of gold. It can be something else … it could be anything." Well, that clears that up. So far, Kim hasn’t given any reason fo
HOLLYWOOD, July 26, 2000 -- The truth is out there: Are Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston getting married this weekend? And an even bigger truth is out there: If they are getting married, then why the heck weren't we invited? If the rampant rumors are true, the wedding will take place this weekend in the tony, beach blanket bingo city of Malibu, Calif. The British Sun tabloid was first to deliver the matrimonial shocker last week, followed by well-connected stateside gossip columnists who say the invitations have been sent and the cake has been ordered. Meanwhile, protocol-observing entertainment news outfits (us included) checked with the actor's people, who told us the scoop is bogus. Do we believe it? Not for a moment. Not when we've heard the rumor about Gwyneth Paltrow crying when she heard the news. And not when we so obviously were dissed, omi

SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 12, 2000 -- Is this a job for Puff Daddy? To be sure, Jennifer Lopez is short a leading man after Aaron Eckhart ("Erin Brockovich") fled the actress's "Angel Eyes" just one month before the romantic comedy was to go before cameras. Today's Daily Variety says Eckhart was unhappy with the script. Nothing like having standards to mess up a perfectly good plan. THEY ALSO WISH PIGS WOULD FLY: A Romanian-based film company said today that when it said Leonardo DiCaprio was going to star in its sci-fi flick "Librium" it meant the statement as "a wish, not a certainty." BUSY AS A BEE, INDUSTRIOUS AS AN ANT: In-demand Oscar winner Kevin Spacey will star in (and produce) an as-yet untitled flick about a theater production that is forced to import a Hollywood celeb to sell tickets. Variety says playwright Wendy Wasserstein ("The Heidi Chronicles"
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Feb. 21, 2000 -- Jennifer Love Hewitt joins the adult race today, reaching the ripe-old, legal-drinking age of 21. Hewitt will, presumably, display some very adult-like maturity in the forthcoming ABC biopic "The Audrey Hepburn Story," in which she portrays the late actress-turned-humanitarian, a role that departs from Hewitt's usual angst-ridden (and stalker-pursued) TV and film roles. The real Audrey Hepburn, by the way, was 25 when "Sabrina" was released, 28 when "Funny Face" came out, 32 when "Breakfast at Tiffany's" was released and 34 when "My Fair Lady" premiered. Good to know Jennifer's doing her best to catch up. MEA CULPA: Back on the job after a nasty illness sidelined him for more than a month, Miramax honcho Harvey Weinstein has this to say: Blame me. SANTA MONICA, Calif., Dec. 27, 1999-Trouble for actress Jennifer Lopez ("Out of Sight") and boyfriend/rap mogul Sean "Puffy" Combs in New York as police quizzed the pair this morning in the wake of a Times Square nightclub shooting. Lopez, 29, was questioned but later released with no charges pending, New York police said. Officials initially indicated Lopez had been arrested on a weapons charge. But the star's lawyer told reporters Lopez was not charged- "She had nothing to do with any gun. Nothing to do with any shooting." Combs, meanwhile, remained under suspicion on charges of criminal possession of an allegedly stolen handgun. The Lopez-Combs scandal came as police investigate an incident that left three people-one woman and two men-wounded at Manhattan's Club NY, NYPD Detective John Giammarino says. The incident occurred at about 2:30 a.m. (ET). According to reports
