Hollywood.com traveled to Northern California to meet with Lucas at his Big Rock Ranch and the mogul gave us seven great reasons to check out the new movie, in theaters this Friday.

HOLLYWOOD, Oct. 11, 2000 -- A lot of people would bend over backward just to be part of the "Star Wars" empire. But not David Duchovny, apparently. British entertainment site Empire Online reports that "The X-Files" guy, during a French Internet chat last week, revealed that he was approached by George Lucas about the still untitled "Episode 3" project. But get this: He actually turned it down. "I'm a fan of Star Wars," Duchovny said during the chat, "but I'm not sure of having the time to act in it. ... I've got tons of projects in production after the 'X-Files' series." One of those projects that Duchovny will have time for will be DreamWorks' sci-fi comedy "Evolution," where the actor has signed on to play a professor who must save the world from alien attacks.
The French film Vidocq, starring Gerard Depardieu and set for release on Sept. 19, will become the first feature to be released using the Sony-Panavision technology that George Lucas employed with his latest Star Wars film

HOLLYWOOD, Nov. 7, 2000 -- "Star Wars" geeks can rejoice. Lucasfilm has agreed to a deal with Netcaster AtomFilms.com that would allow fans of all things "Star Wars" to put up their unofficial spoofs on an official home on the Internet, Variety reports. And there's more reason to rejoice. Not only will your spoofs be on AtomFilm's site, they'll even split any royalty payments or sponsorships generated from the films. Currently, AtomFilms.com is accepting submissions, after which a team of Lucasfilm judges will vote on the best shorts to be placed online. The idea to create an official site, which will launch next month, was hatched after rumors about the storyline began circulating on the Internet about "Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace."
HOLLYWOOD, June 26, 2000 -- Do you feel a disturbance in The Force today? No doubt you've sensed it, because principal photography for "Star Wars: Episode II" officially starts today in the land Down Under. You'd have to be a total curmudgeon not to be excited about it; either that, or you'd have to be Australian. See, Web sites, newspapers and magazines around the world have been abuzz for months about the new "Star Wars" flick. There were headlines when little-known Hayden Christiansen was picked over bigger names to play the young Darth Vader; heck, there were even headlines when George Lucas arrived in Australia last week to get ready for the shoot. But when we asked Garth Franklin, producer of the renown Dark Horizons movie site www.darkhorizons.com and a resident of Oz, about how Aussies' themselves are gearing up for the shoot, he reported that the locals aren't a

There are intruders on the set for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode II set. Production footage showing Ewan McGregor battling with a lightsabre had been featured on an unofficial Internet site, TheForce.net. Hours later, the site had a message telling the fans that the footage was no longer available for viewing. A spokeswoman for Lucasfilm told BBC News Online that the footage on the site had been illegally copied from footage the company had put together for the MovieLine awards. A spokesperson for TheForce.net did not have any comments.
HOLLYWOOD, Sept. 1, 2000 -- Everyone knows how methodical, thorough and tight are the legendary security measures taken to protect the "Star Wars" franchise. So, how did some greedy fanboy get his dirty hands on a copy of the "Star Wars: Episode II" screenplay? We say "greedy" because the unidentified culprit who says he has purloined the prized script isn't offering it (or even a synopsis) gratis to the fan universe. This guy wants $100,000. "Greedy" because the actions of this money-hungry script thief have put one of the best Web sites for "Star Wars" info in a difficult situation. The story, first reported by columnist Jeffrey Wells of Reel.com, concerns TheForce.net, a megapopular, fan-run "Star Wars" site. As the story goes, the anonymous scooper offered to sell the "Episode II" script to TheForce.net, but instead of ponying up the ridiculously high
HOLLYWOOD, May 12, 2000 – Surprise, surprise. Lucasfilm announced this afternoon that Hayden Christensen -- the 19-year-old Canadian actor everyone knew was going to be the next Anakin Skywalker –- has, yes, been tapped to play the next Anakin Skywalker in the upcoming "Star Wars: Episode II." The confirmation of the world's worst-kept secret came via the official "Star Wars" Web site (www.starwars.com). "'Star Wars' has always been big for my generation," Christensen is quoted as saying on the site. "When 'Episode I' came out my entire high school went to the theater for the first showing. It was a big event, and to be a part of that now is very special." The casting process started last October with more than 400 candidates. The pool was eventually cut down to around 25, and finally, to the four unnamed candidates -- Christensen included. The final four performe
SANTA MONICA, Calif., May 3, 2000 -- Just when you're sick of all the rumors about who will play Anakin Skywalker in "Star Wars: Episode II," here's another one. USA Today is reporting that George Lucas met last weekend with several (unnamed) actors who are under consideration for the coveted role as the young Darth Vader. At his Skywalker Ranch compound in California's Marin County, Lucas reportedly subjected the actors to a digital screen test opposite Natalie Portman, who will reprise her role as Queen Amidala, Anakin's bride-to-be. Naturally, no one's saying whether anyone aced the audition. "It could be several weeks before we know anyting," producer Rick McCallum told the newspaper. But the rumor mill cannot wait for facts. Over the past day or so, lots of "Star Wars"-obsessed Web sites have been positing that Colin Hanks (co-star of TV's "Roswell," son of
SANTA MONICA, Calif., March 15, 2000 -- So, how does a guy distinguish himself from a pool of similar-looking, similar-aged, similar-caliber heartthrobs who are willing to do just about anything to land the role of the teen-aged Anakin Skywalker in the new "Star Wars" movie? Joshua Jackson By doing exactly that: Just about anything. So when a story broke a couple of weeks ago that "Dawson's Creek" wonder boy Joshua Jackson had willed himself onto the Anakin candidate list by personally spreading rumors about his possible casting, well, it all made sense. Except Jackson never did such a thing. The urban legend began as most urban legends do -- with an itty, bitty bit of truth. In late February, Jackson did a phone interview with the morning drive-time deejays at Miami's WZTA-FM. During the course of the chat, the radio guys asked the TV star about stories tha
